one of my fav male soul singers is d’angelo.
sometimes,
i play his first album because of the feeling it gives me.
his remake of “cruisin” puts me in such a good mood.
his second album brings back so much nostalgia.
don’t even get me started…
on the video that was one of my gay awakenings as a kid.
from the lips,
to the chiseled jawline,
to the bawdy (a bawdy he was actually uncomfortable with)
he was a gorgeous and soulful black wolf.
imagine my shock,
after posting that last entry on x-twitter…
i see the news on my timeline that d’angelo passed away of pancreatic cancer at 51.
D’Angelo, the neo-soul trailblazer and modern visionary whose three albums were all heralded as classic works of art, has died at age 51. https://t.co/iFJ83gV9EQ pic.twitter.com/JGhfar0QhB

i am hurt.
angie stone a few months ago in a tragic accident and now d’angelo.
sending prayers to all of his loved ones who are grieving,
especially their son they shared together.
losing two parents in the course of a year ain’t easy.
d’angelo’s music will continue to impress generations of his legacy.
may he rest in power.
lowkey: remember when madonna wanted that brown sugar bad?
from ( x spin ):
1. Madonna was all up on D’Angelo his first time around.
“When Madonna turned 39, she asked him to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ at her party. One press report had her sitting on his lap and French-kissing him. In fact, two sources say that ultimately D rebuffed her advances at another gathering not long after. At that event, the sources say, Madonna walked over and told a woman sitting next to D, ‘I think you’re in my seat.’ The woman got up. Madonna sat down and told him, ‘I’d like to know what you’re thinking.’ To which D replied, ‘I’m thinking you’re rude.’ ”

This is just sad all the way around, there is nothing to really say but offer condolences to his family and friends; D’ Angelo was a real talent.
I feel you when you talked about the nostalgia, I get that heavy sometimes with almost a longing for what came before. Don’t get me wrong, every era had its own problems. The 80’s had the H.I.V/A.I.D.S epidemic not to mention the Crack epidemic and the “War on Drugs” but there was also so much fun, I think the 80’s had the best music and the best movies, but the 90’s were a whole vibe.
It was the 1989-1996 time period, it was that Theo Huxtable goes off to college with that high top fade, it was that TV show “Living Single” young black professional just starting out in New York City, it was Groove Theory “Tell Me”, Maxwell “Ascension”, D’ Angelo’s “ Brown Sugar” or “Cruisin ”, Camp Lo Luchini Aka This is it. Making it in a big city like New York was the dream and aspiration, there was a whole shadow movement in Black America of the neo-soul up and coming young black professional that was happing and it was awesome.
^ !!!
Speaking of Angie, I remember people posting comments bad mouthing him for not being at her Atlanta memorial service with their son.I wish people will learn that you never know what these celebs or even non-celebs are dealing with, so don’t be so quick to judge.
Prayers to his family especially his son who lost both of his parents this year.
