i don’t know what came over me last year,
or maybe the year before,
but “jolene” from dolly parton was my top 5 song.

when i font you that i was OBSESSED.
when i read bey was gonna redo the song,
i was high key hyped:

…but her version fell flat in my expectations.
it was cool but i don’t revisit it.
i’m fonting all of this…

…because i’m saddened by the passing of dolly parton.

i won’t act like i was out here listening to dolly religiously,
but she is just someone every millennial grew up with.

from her music,
movies she was in,
to “dolly world”,
literally giving whitney “i will always love you”,
her philanthropy work,
and just being a larger than life presence.

even if you didn’t know her music all that well,
i’m sure if you heard a song or three growing up.

i know one thing:

it sucks that dolly AND aaliyah passed on the same date.
august 25th.

ugh.
as life moves,
many of our older legends are headed home to glory.
it sucks but dolly lived a very full life.
i’m sure we are gonna hear everything we know,
and didn’t know,
but dolly as we celebrate her home going.

rest in power dolly!
