maybe, maybe, maybe

someone shared a story with me recently and i wanted to share it with you.
its for all of those who are going through something,
or maybe you aren’t and like positivity shit.

when we look back in our lives,
we don’t realize things that go wrong help us in the future.

i have experienced shit going wrong and in the present moment,
i won’t even act like i don’t have a meltdown.
i’m asking if i’m cursed or if God hates me.
when i see how it helped or revealed something in the future,
in a few occasions helping me avoid danger,
i learned that maybe it all happened for a reason.
so this story is called,
maybe” by alan watts,
and “maybe” someone in The Foxhole needed to read this story today

The Chinese Farmer Story

Once upon a time there was a Chinese farmer whose horse ran away. That evening, all of his neighbors came around to commiserate. They said, “We are so sorry to hear your horse has run away. This is most unfortunate.” The farmer said, “Maybe.”

The next day the horse came back bringing seven wild horses with it, and in the evening everybody came back and said, “Oh, isn’t that lucky. What a great turn of events. You now have eight horses!” The farmer again said, “Maybe.”

The following day his son tried to break one of the horses, and while riding it, he was thrown and broke his leg. The neighbors then said, “Oh dear, that’s too bad,” and the farmer responded, “Maybe.”

The next day the conscription officers came around to conscript people into the army, and they rejected his son because he had a broken leg. Again all the neighbors came around and said, “Isn’t that great!” Again, he said, “Maybe.”

The whole process of nature is an integrated process of immense complexity, and it’s really impossible to tell whether anything that happens in it is good or bad — because you never know what will be the consequence of the misfortune; or, you never know what will be the consequences of good fortune.

i was watching a deep interview with madonna and jay shetty the other day.
in the interview,
i can’t remember if she or her kabbalah teacher said:

when you are going through something,
ask yourself,
“what is the opportunity here?”

…and i thought that was really profound.
that is what lives in “maybe”.
i was in a dark place and randomly stumbled upon the interview.
this is something else that i took in my notes.
it’s the steps when you take when dealing with bullshit:

  • step 1: pause and say “what an opportunity. i don’t know why it’s an opportunity but every moment of lack is a gift from the Universe to help me to reveal light and blessings in my life
  • step 2: don’t fix… embrace the difficult the feelings because in order to find light in darkness you need to be in the darkness. it’s okay and embrace what is. allow it. we don’t know how to sit in the darkness. that’s when we develop strength in the discomfort. trusting even tho i don’t feel it. trusting beyond logic that this is for my best.
  • step 3: tell myself that all the light within me now.
  • step 4: when feeling less reactive, ask God to show me the way

when i go to panic,
it takes strength to step back and find the “maybe”.
i find when i surrender after panic,
that is when i see the “maybe”.
this is the interview i watched:

my hope is that this helped someone in their season like it did me.
