A new bill introduced by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) could make porn a crime in the United States.
The Interstate Obscenity Definition Act would add all pornography, including any depiction of sexual acts that “lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value,” to the definition of obscenity. This would make it illegal to distribute or consume porn, regardless of the material’s intent. Currently, only porn intended to “abuse, threaten, or harass” someone is illegal.
Rep. Mary Miller (R-Ill.) who also had a hand in the new proposal, said it would “equip law enforcement with the tools they need to target and remove obscene material from the internet, which is alarmingly destructive and far outside the bounds of protected speech under the Constitution.”
The proposed act would define “obscenity” as content that:
- Appeals to an excessive amount of interest in nudity or sex
- Shows or describes real or fake sexual acts
- Lacks scientific, political, artistic or literary value
The act would also remove “the ‘intent’ requirement that only prohibits the transmission of obscenity for the purposes [of] abusing, threatening or harassing a person,” according to a release from Lee’s office.

Can I start off by saying Jamari you are absolutely right, porn right now is real dry; OnlyFans, freak twitter, etc..
This issue has me tight, I can’t understand why people are so ok with all of the gratuitous violence we have in the media and in our society; but, some how sex is a bridge too far. You can turn on many TV shows now and you can see people get the heads chopped off, their skulls being crushed, bodies being pulverized or disintegrated, people being stabbed, shot, ran over by cars, bones being broken, necks being snapped; and everyone is cool with it. Terrence Howard is cool with playing pimps, gang members, drug dealers and killers; but playing an alleged “Gay” Marvin Gaye is going too far.
It’s the hypocrisy for me and the fact that the math is snitching on everybody. Porn is a multi-billion dollar industry making from 15 to 100 billion dollars, with more than 15 billion coming from the United States alone. One study showed that 1 in 3 Americans seek out porn and 11% of Americans watch porn daily; get the fuck out of here with the nonsense. People are just made to feel ashamed and therefore don’t defend it, but drugs, guns, and sheer violence is ok.
You also pointed out the real point which is to some how steer this towards sexuality and before you know it the LGBTQIA+ is on the chopping block.

The this is going to hurt me but I’m okay with it because it hurts you as well crowd is going to be celebrating but also unhappy. This is truly dark times and I’m very sure they’ll try to position it as good for everybody because it removes “harmful and offensive” content but we know it will target bipoc and queer creators the hardest and first. Then once they’ve harmed us enough they’ll get everybody else.
