Lady Liberty is giving her toxic ex another chance.
he’s been begging and coppin’ pleas to get her back.
just when we thought we’d seen the last of him,
she lets him back in.
unlike the last time he was with her,
back in 2016,
he is coming with a bunch of new friends.
tbh,
it’s not like lady liberty’s been her strongest self lately..
maybe she’s hoping he’ll be the fix she needs,
or maybe she’s just worn down,
willing to settle for a familiar disaster over facing the unknown.
either way,
we’re stuck with him until the unforeseeable future.
like a reality show we are forced to be in,
we’ll be watching from the sidelines as they try once again to make it work.
loving her from a distance feels like the only sane option.
we’ll stay out of their mess as best as we can,
but don’t think for a second we won’t have something to say about it.
the thing is…
We know how he handles pressure.
He doesn’t.
History is known to repeat itself,
he’ll crumble like wet paper at the first sign of trouble.
so when things inevitably go south,
we’ll get a front-row seat to watch him flounder.
at least there will be some entertainment value,
right?
…and honestly,
there’s no point in feeling sad about it.
we tried; we did our part.
maybe it wasn’t enough or maybe it just didn’t matter.
either way,
all we can do now is focus on looking out for ourselves.
Today,
I don’t feel much of anything about it.
We’ve done this dance before but we’ll probably do it again,
along with learn another few dances as well.
as others celebrate,
there’s a chill in the air.
we’re here for us now,
unapologetically.
we’ve seen who’s in our corner and who isn’t,
and while they chose the leader they wanted,
we’ll have to be ruthless about protecting what’s ours.
so Foxhole,
as we’re forced to stand with lady liberty in her toxic relationship,
we’ll have to learn to adjust,
grow stronger,
and come out the other side safely,
maybe we’ll grow wiser and better off than before.
Let’s embrace the changes,
stay hopeful,
and look forward to the unexpected victories ahead.
Jamari,
When talking to friends about post-election emotions, I also referenced the Kendrick song. LOL. We have survived before and we will this time. Perhaps battered and bruised, but we will get to 2028. And in the meantime, we HAVE TO consistently stand to protect what is ours while hopefully the Democratic party re-assesses their strategy going forward.
