i cried during the first episode of “carrie” on amazon prime.
it triggered me in so many ways.
i was once that young fox,
bright-eyed and bushy tailed,
who just wanted friendship.
those little jackals made my young life so difficult.
they made me feel like everything i did was wrong.
bad enough,
at home,
that is how i was being treated as well.
it was like i had no peace.
the only peace i had was playing with my toys and video games,
losing myself in creating good guys vs bad guys with my action figures.
i was “the weird one” but looking back,
they were all weird AF growing up so fast.
so this show really spoke to me.
i always thought carrie was a hero tbh.

if i had powers,
it would pretty much be over.
this is why God didn’t trust me with super powers of that magnitude.
the show was going well for me…
until (with spoilers)…
they introduced the x men storyline.
it felt like some “school of the gifted” shit that got weird as the show went on.
not only that:
i felt like carrie wasn’t really that tormented.
i felt like even the bully was confused why she was bullying.
like at one point,
carrie was a hero that had no reason to go mad.
it was like the writers got lost somewhere in what bullying looks like.
it felt like there was no reason to go HAM at the prom.
like,
when the pig’s blood fell on her,
it had me lost because two seconds earlier,
they were celebrating her.
speaking of the iconic prom scene:
kinda mid.
in the movies,
carrie has a lot of bodies under her belt.
in the show,
it was boring and had a lot of x-men foolishness going on.
in another plot in a whole other universe:
carrie should have been a black vixen,
dealing with racism and micro aggression by her white bullies.
her teachers either turned the other cheek because the white children were rich.
she goes home to her toxic religious mother,
who is her own brand of wicked crazy.
they get upset because the popular jock wants to take her to the prom.
this is when the white children dump the pig’s blood on her,
and with the telekinetic power of our ancestors,
she melts the entire town and the goes home and kills the mother.
carrie ends up dying because the whole house falls on her.
i dunno,
something.
i think that would be an interesting “carrie” story.
the current show was good but then it started dragging for me.
it started feeling more “disney teen” than mike flanagan’s other work.
i fuck with everything mike has done,
but he went harder in “the fall of the house of usher“.
don’t even get me started on how it ended.
her mother had powers too?
what?
she is being hunted by other mutants too?
double what?
i don’t see a purpose of a second season,
unless she joins the x-men and that’s how she ends up in “avengers doomsday”.
