Robert G3’s comments are completely out of touch, but the sad truth is that the more wealth someone has in this society, the easier it is for them to dodge the consequences of their political choices. His money shields him from this election, and he doesn’t want to risk disrupting his comfortable life—until racism personally affects him, and then he’ll likely change his tune.
People are really stupid and have the game all twisted up. You have a political debate about what time the street lights come on; one person may want 6:30 pm another might say 7 p.m. You debate about what to name the public library, and if you disagree, you can walk away and still be cool.
You don’t get to debate someone’s right to exist or someone’s right to be comfortable in the skin that they’re in. If you lack real humanity, compassion, sympathy, and empathy for other people, that is a reason to cut someone off; we can’t be friends.
