Have you ever found yourself missing the Obamas,
wondering if we were just…
better with them in charge?

last night,
as i watched them speak at the dnc,
it felt like a wave of nostalgia mixed with a cold dose of reality.
the obamas have this way of making you want to level up.
michelle,
especially.
i’m glad that she has shifted her past stance.
she went from “when they go low, we go high” to:

“You come for me and I’ll dropkick you straight to hell.”

i’m here for every bit of it.

after the speeches ended and the tv went dark,
a thought kept circling in my mind.
is it just me…

…or did the forests have a touch more class when Obama was running the show?

we operated differently back then.
we had a black president,
a black first lady,
and black kids who knew they had to represent,
knowing the forests was watching.
they knew that black folks don’t get the same grace as others.
even if we had ratchet tendencies,
it wasn’t as annoying and overkill as it is now.
despite his flaws,
obama was (and still is) the blueprint for class.
folks yearns for a leader and that’s what kept many of us on our best behavior.

the trump era is where bullying became a trend.
suddenly,
people were saying/fonting whatever they wanted.
“say/font what you want because consequences be damned.”

Was it Obama’s presence that pushed us to be better versions of ourselves?

after all that has happened these last few years,
are we tired of all the negativity?
are we craving a return to a time when class and respect mattered?
are we really longing for that old-school obama energy?
i feel like many of us share the same sentiments after their speeches last night.
we want to go back to a time when we strived to be better because if you ask me…

That’s the real key to making America great again.

as these folks have gotten more unhinged,
we can be classy but still drag a jackal back to their cave when needed.
