when i was first learning about who i was,
i was told to read the book “b-boy blues” by james earl hardy.
i was around the time i discorvered e lynn harris as well.
for the life of me,
i can’t remember what “b-boy blues” is about like i can with e lynn’s books,
but i know it was a fantasy i wish came to life.
well,
jussie smollett wants to bring that fantasy to the big screen…
Jussie Smollett is preparing his feature directorial debut with B-Boy Blues, an adaptation of James Earl Hardy’s classic 1994 novel.
The film will go into production on Oct. 17 in New York City.ย The musician and former Empire actor has previously directed two episodes of the Fox series and several music videos.
Smollett’s recently-formed SuperMassive Movies, an ancillary label of his Story Worthy Pictures banner, will produce. Per the company, SuperMassive has raised “mid-seven figures” in a partnership with Cleveland-based investor Tom Wilson to finance small-budget films from minority filmmakers.
Smollett will produce the film alongside author Hardy, investor Wilson,ย Frank Gatson, Sampson McCormick and Madia Hill Scott.
honestly,
this is a big look.
this is a good move for his comeback.
i like that he is keeping lowkey and staying bts for a while.
i’m gonna be honest and font his reputation is still trash,
but if he can direct and produce some good movies,
i can see a jussie comeback in the cards.
i can’t wait to see how this goes tho.
i’m sure they’ll do this book justice.
lowkey: jussie was involved in “giants”.
you know how obsessed i was with that.
( x recap it here )
i know he is gonna bring up some quality programming.

Smart move by Jussie. Let them fall in love with your work behind the scenes and not you as the person which will slowly garner the respect. Gillum should learn from this playbook.
This was a great book back in the day but I hope jessie bounce back a great man period
I remember reading this back in college – gave it to a body vixen to read that was all up in my business lol.
It was basically a gay ‘Stella getting his groove’ when DL was a big boogeyman. I liked it for the fantasy it was – and also that Raheem accepted his bisexuality AND gave up the booty lol
The second book was cool. Don’t remember reading much of his after that. Good look to raise visibility behind the scenes.
Yuck. I hated this book. I couldn’t get through the first chapter. Another fucked up way to create stereotypical black men. He should have gone after E. Lynn Harris’s collection. His book was better written. Better character development. SMH
exactly. i would love to see the guys who did the dl chronicles series (Deandre n his partner) bring e lynn harris novels to the big screen. that wb amazing

I remember there was talk of bringing his book Invisible Life to the big screen right before he passed. He even said he had Rick Fox in mind for the part of Basil.
Tracy Edmonds actually has the rights to all of E. Lynn Harris novels and there was talk when he died that they were going to be produced for either HBO or Showtime and then nothing ever happened. To be honest I think E. Lynn books will go over better on the big screen with a wider appeal. I read the B-Boy Books but IMO they are not as memorable. On another note, both of these works may have passed there time to shine unless they are updated. So many TV Shows, Movies, Youtube Series have opened the door to tell our stories I wonder will these still hold weight now that is much more mainstream to be Black and Gay. This will be interesting.
I agree. E Lynn Harris would make a great tv show. Like you said I believe they miss a great opportunity.
Good for him.. I’m not exactly a Jussie fan but I don’t believe in knocking him down forever. Especially another black gay man (I know he’s biracial but he’s judged as a black male in the US). There are people who have done more heinous things who get many passes in the industry but we won’t even go there.
raheem raheem raheem…as ru paul says..”and don’t fuck it up” it wb interesting to see what actor plays him
It was a good read. Hope the film does well.
Jamari, I completely agree that its a shrewd re-entry for Jussie and I LOVED Giants also! I need to blow some dust off of Hardyโs book and re-read it.
^after i finish mariahโs book,
ima re-read that because i really canโt remember how that book went.
B boy blues is one my favorite books that I have read. All the other books after it isn’t so good.
I hope jessie do it justice and do not fuck it up.
I saw the tall dude from Giants in a restaurant in Harlem. He cute but got all dem dick sukkas surrounding him.
^ dudes that only around him for clout?
THIS is what I’ve been waiting for. Not Moonlight.
I pray this turns out great. Hardy is my literary GodFather and Iโm praying for all of the involved parties. The novels literally saved my life. I thank him every time I get a chance. ๐๐๐๐ฝ๐
^love this and joining in on those prayers as well.
