Michael Sam, the first openly gay player drafted by an NFL team, signed a two-year contract Friday with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.

“With the signing of Michael Sam, we have become a better organization today,” Alouettes general manager Jim Popp said in a release. “Not only have we added an outstanding football player, we have added even a better person that brings dignity, character, and heart to our team.”

The Alouettes have held the exclusive CFL rights to Sam since his senior year at Missouri, when he was the SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

“I am very excited and proud to join the Montreal Alouettes,” Sam said in a statement. “… I cannot wait to put on the pads, get back on the field and work hard each and every day with my teammates to bring a Grey Cup to the great fans here in Montreal.”

Popp never considered Sam’s sexuality to be an issue.

“Michael Sam is a very good football player, and that’s the reason we signed him,” Popp said. “He’s an outstanding pass-rusher.”

  1. I forgot canda had football lol, good for him I have a feeling that football is all he wants to do and he may have realize that coming out now in the way he did got in the way of that dream for awhile.

  2. This is a start for him if he wants to really wants to get in the NFL, but he has to be serious.

S/N: Him and Ochocinco are on the same team. Y’all forgot that he plays for the Alouettes as well.

    1. I didn’t realize Ocho starting playing in Canada. That speaks volumes on Sam’s new position in life but I’m still rooting for him to succeed.

P.S. The real advantage for me is seeing dat ass in spandex for another year or so lol

  3. Lmao yall know he’s about to fade into obscurity!

Even Chad has been under the radar since he went over there and we all know what an attention whore he was lol

    1. But fading into obscurity is probably better for him though. He clearly doesn’t have the talent to warrant the fame. By becoming yesterday’s news, if he does well in Canada, his best bet is being picked up by a bad NFL team with a depleted roster some 4-5 years down the line.

Not saying that can happen, but that’s the best scenario.

"off topic" and other nonsense gets sent to my spam folder. other than that, play nice and let's discuss!
