the joneses can’t wait to tell all your business when you’re broke

I had to wonder:
Have you ever wondered what happens when the pursuit of acceptance turns into a debt trap?

i’m learning to be glad i wasn’t accepted when i desperately wanted to be.
God was really looking out for me.
it left me with the ability to be transparent about the good and the bad.
others i know,
sadly,
would probably die if their followers knew the truth about their lives.
they’ve created such a highlight reel that there’s no going back.
take brandon miller for example.

while his wife,
candice miller,
was vacationing in europe,
he deleted himself in the garage of their flaunted crib.
why?…

They racked up 17 million dollars worth of debt due to trying to keep up with the Joneses

he didn’t even want to stick around for his kids.
the part that’s wild to me is this:

The same people they lived to impress were the same people who seemed to lowkey hated them.
Once Brandon was out the picture and the jig was up,
people were quick to start telling the real story.

this is what brandon looked like shortly before he died:

his eyes and energy tell the whole story for me.

someone even revealed the wife had to borrow money just to travel on this trip.
they were living a lie to keep up with the joneses,
all while the joneses weren’t even impressed with them.

it made me think about the people we try to impress.
we can have strangers admiring our “amazing” lives from all around the world.
when our lives are built on “keeping up appearances only“,
the foundation is fragile.
it’s like building a house of cards.
it takes a lot to maintain that facade including funds.
there are straight males who have to suck another penis just to keep up.

How much is it worth to maintain an image and look interesting to those around us because of what we have?

when it comes to spending money to stay in the in-crowd,
the cost is more than just financial.
it’s our peace of mind,
our authenticity,
and sometimes,
tragically,
our lives.

The Joneses might not be worth impressing after all.

lowkey: i think the best role is to be in the middle.
tease a little but know when to pull back.
be friendly with the joneses but know these people ain’t your friends.
you gotta balance hot and cold to win the game of thrones.
