let’s stop acting like we would appreciate whitney if she was alive today

We barely appreciate Mariah and all the other legends.

i keep saying and fonting that people don’t appreciate you until you gone.
until you say “fuck you, don’t talk to me anymore, goodbye“.
folks get the message either through death,
when they see your ass glo’d up in “new me; who dis?”,
or you not fuckin’ with them anymore because of being taken for granted.

“OMG!
______ was so amazing and I miss them so much!”

tell us how you fucked up and lost a good thing without telling us.
so when i see shit like this…

i’m inclined to yawn and take a nap tbh.
here is a few reasons why i’m callin cap:

In this climate of next to no sangers,
Whitney would have never survived in this climate.
Look at the heat Bey gets and her mic is usually on.

When Whitney was alive,
she was treated as a joke and a meme.
It isn’t until she died,
everyone remembered how great “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” is.

Fun fact: Did The Foxhole know Whitney was booed at the Soul Train Awards?
This was back in 88.
She was booed for that same “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”
that everyone likes playing when it comes to her hits.

Why?
Because she was black and they said she was singing “white music”.

It’s no surprise some of our own community don’t appreciate until it’s too late.

In a forests where there is no bridge and a song is no more than 2 minutes long,
do we really think Whitney would be able to really get down like she use to?

White artists have permission to “sing” nowadays.

What Jay said on Lost Ones?
“Okay, so make another Hov”.

We still waiting on another Whitney,
Lutha,
Aretha,
and don’t get me started on Michael.

and finally:

Social media gave everyone a mouth piece.
Streaming has kinda ruined the artist.
Talent is dead when the one hit wonders have no expiration dates.

so yeah,
we fucked around and found out.

we made our decisions on what we truly want with talent.
whitney came,
she saw,
and she conquered.
her demons won and we ending up losing.
there will probably never be another whitney houston,
like,
ever.

Let’s “You Just Had To Be There” for those who got to witness that legend in her glory.

let that queen rest in her power.

lowkey: when beyonce retires,
we really gonna be lost.

we aren’t seeing any icons or legends until the great reset.

  1. I think Whitney would be celebrated in the way we celebrate legends. She too would have aged out of pop charts (like everyone does), and we saw her voice diminish in real time. That said, I think we’d still celebrate her for her legacy, like we do Mariah, Celine, and Toni. They never have to record again. We have more than enough hits to keep jammin to.

Glad you wrote this! It is true. Diana Ross is 80 tomorrow and Ross, Knight, Warwick, LaBelle, Streisand, Bassey are a unique esoteric enclave of LEGENDS! The last one’s. B.Giselle Knowles Carter is not yet on that list! She hasn’t cracked the code, YET.
