Well, sexuality can be fluid or changeable / maleable. Perhaps he was bisexual all along—before and after he met Zed. As we know there is a Kinsey Scale of Sexualty. From 100% gay to 100% straight. Perhaps he was mostly straight when he met Zed but the “energy” from Zed made him mostly or 100% gay—at least for a while. Who knows? Maybe he may not know. Maybe he does know.
