when social media gets on a wave,
boy,
do we get on that wave.
we will surf that muthafucka until we wipe clean out.
as of late,
i’ve been thinking of social media’s obsession with canceling others.
some days,
i can’t keep up with everyone who gets canceled.
don’t get me wrong,
some deserve their cancelations.
others,
however,
merely riled up a group of “sjws”.
social justice warriors for those who don’t know.
it reminds me that we truly never left high school.
You weren’t part of the popular crowd if you didn’t fit in/follow the crowd
this leads me to dangers of the “#metoo/times up” movement…
none of us are immune from being slandered out here.
it takes nothing for someone who doesn’t like you to try and ruin you.
all they need to do is concoct a story that will get the most traction online.
they could say you raped them in high school.
you never even spoken to them more than a “hello”.
next thing you know…
they’re on a press tour trying to destroy you.
others will try and join in on the action.
folks who met you once have interesting stories to tell.
everything you worked hard for is destroyed by the tap of a finger.
the more you deny,
the guiltier you look.
like,
what do you do?
everything is a retweet,
like,
or ig story,
but no one goes on a full investigation.
how many stories of folks screaming “rape” have turned out to be lies?
how many scammers out here have been exposed?
it made me wonder about this #metoo/cancel culture we live in.
Do we just go on someone else’s word these days?
someone says something happened and we rush to believe it?
what happened to hard evidence?
holding off judgment until the entire story is out there?
we could be canceling innocent people and not even realizing it.
so i think we all need to get the entire story before we get the pitchforks.
you never know who is a vindictive jackal with sociopathic tendencies.
i mean,
you’d want someone to hear your side in an accusation,
right?

Social Media is going to end our civilization faster than any War ever could. Everybody has turned into a narcissistic attention seeker and we just feed off of each others need for attention. So many people are living stressful mundane lives so they are happy when someone who is in the spotlight screws up. It is so easy to jump on and off of bandwagons. We move on so quickly nowadays that no one can keep up with all the various cancellations. People in the spotlight every word and past word they have ever uttered is up for review and condemnation, especially if someone is offended. Everybody has a damn opinion about everything, and if it does not fit your narrative, you can make it fit and find others who will push the same narrative, the truth be damned. Critical thinking is all but gone from our school curriculum so we have a generation of people who will believe anything on the Internet without one fact or source.
As someone who had a family member involved in a tragic national news story, I am now fully aware how people will make up things, make opinion videos without any facts and post out right lies on a situation they have no information on. After dealing with this, I have a little more feeling for normal people who lives are thrown into the spotlight without warning, and also for Celebs who have to live it daily. In both instances it takes someone with a strong reserve. Although this may fall on deaf ears, it is always good to read newspapers and blogs for different perspectives on any given situation you hear or see on the news, get much information as possible before you are ready to hand out that Cancellation Notice!
Yass come through with a word!!! I don’t get caught up in cancel culture or social media. I rather put my money where my mouth is and make change not talk about it.
^im sorry to hear about your family member.
i know that was stressful af.
i don’t like canceling people over opinions or other silliness.
i’ll cancel you if you are harmful or just downright ignorant without change.
That’s why I always keep my mouth shut on other folks situations because you don’t know what happened unless you were there. No need of speculating on it either. It’s so weird to me how normal people get so caught up in these celebrity scandals trying to be the first one to say I told you so. We all got bones in the closet & some still got meat on theirs!
^folks act like they never did dirt.
some dirt is inexcusable,
but other stuff requires a good schooling.
canceling leads to how dating in these days.
someone is less than perfect and they get ghosted.
it’s pathetic how we are so quick to throw away people nowadays.
