I don’t people to not think I don’t like Nicki.
Her mix tapes were fire.
Her features are pretty on point.
Sadly, her albums tend to have a lot of misses for me.
(last album was garbaj)
After listening to Nicki and Flex go at it yesterday,
I feel like they were both wrong.
Nicki was acting like a baby and Flex was being soft and back peddling.
(his voice was annoying me HEAVY throughout that interview).
Those who missed the interview:
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2sISJZF8SE]
Rosenberg needed to be on the phone and Wayne also.
Nicki was making a big issue about her being a woman and race issues.
It had nothing to do with that.
Rosenberg did not diss her, he dissed her song.
Her techno shit sucks and she sold out.
Rosenberg says what he feels about ANYONE.
If he thinks your shit is wack, especially for a Hip hop concert like Summer Jam, then it is wack.
Plain and simple.
Another thing is,
how you going to let Wayne stop you from performing in your home city?!?!
Especially, since she claims she is about her money?
If she was a real “rapper“,
she would have walked out, dissed Rosenberg with a hot line, and performed.
This is how a real rapper is supposed to do it:

There was no excuse for you Nicki.
Her barbz are always talking about Kim stay stressin Nicki,
but I believe it is the other way around.
Nicki has built her entire career dissing other female artists and bragging about her stats.
Someone sent me this in an email and I found it quite interesting.

Things that make you go “Hmmmmm….“
People should stay out of things that has nothing to do with them, if its an argument between two individuals then that’s what it is…..People act like their above everything. Just become someone respects the hustle don’t make them a Stan of the individual their supporting….that could easily make you a hater in reverse. All this self righteous Shade is in itself childish.
I meant Just because damn this Phone lol
Who are “people” sir? Because last I checked this is a public blog, so anyone is free to comment.
And just to be perfectly clear, I wasn’t calling you or anyone else a stan; it was a general statement. I’ll wait for your response to the 1st questions before I go further, because you may not have been speaking to me.
1st, there is no way to debate with a stan; by definition they’re too emotionally involved in that particular artist to think rationally.
2nd, name calling & personal attacks are unnecessary – you can agree to disagree, but keep it to the topic at hand – we’re adults, let’s act like it.
3rd, it seems like y’all are arguing two different points & missing the entire debate. No one is debating whether Nicki is a successful artist – that’s evident. But I agree w/Random & Jamari that she went Pop to do it. She’s becoming a caricature w/these outfits, facial expressions, and the like – similar to Gaga. What’s interesting is that both women have an actual foundation of talent (Gaga can play, Onika can rap), that’s basically been swallowed up by the characters they now portray. The chick on the mix-tapes is nothing like the performer now. I don’t follow either artist that closely, but I dare say that Onika the hip-hop artist/person isn’t quite happy with things on a creative level. I’m sure she likes the success, but possibly not all the trappings that come with it – thus her continuing to talk about retirement, deleting her twitter account for a time, etc. For all her talk about her ‘Barbz,’ she seems to have a love-hate realtionship with them. From a fan base perspective, she should’ve performed at SummerJam for them – bump Rosenberg. Pump up an extended set of Starships & SuperBass as the fans eat it up as a big ‘eff you’ to him; but she didn’t.
I think the basis of the debate is you can’t claim ‘real hip-hop’ and chase after Pop. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Pop success – I’d just argue Nicki is a Pop artist w/hip-hop flavor than a Hip-Hop artist that has achieved Pop success.
It remains to be seen how much longevity Nicki, Gaga, nem have. The artists they’ve emulated (Lil Kim, Madonna, Cher, etc.) have been in the game for a minute. What I find funny are the minute attention spans of audiences today. When you can be #1 on Billboard, but only sell 100K units, that’s a problem & not necessarily a great accomplishment. These artists are pulling from their predecessors, and people are eating it up like it’s something new because no one remembers past 2011…
My opinion? She’s Pop – just doesn’t wanna admit it or be seen as ‘selling out’ to the hip-hop heads.
You said that so eloquently Wolfiebaby. Talk about a turn on. đ
Turned me on too, but you know the deal, so…. LOL.
*winks* Hey there Random – gotta show you I’m learned đ
Flex Buggati, why don’t you post in the BGC forums no more? Your stories were the business.
Any-ole-who, this video had me dying
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmUIkPMjze0&feature=youtu.be
OH MY GOD……LMAO…
Oh sweet Jesus…
Dealing with people like this kid I was debating in the forums pretty much put a stop to it…..LOL! You know how those girls on BGC Forums are
Im not buying the Nicki Minaj brand, its like warmed over Lil Kim soup and it dont taste good going down the second time around. Im not even featuring the so called numbers being that everything can be manipulated; from phone banks that do nothing but call to 106 N Park everyday for an artist video to get played, to payola by the radio station, to the record company buying singles and reselling them when they create the illusion that a record is hot. Its amazing all the smoke and mirrors that record companies and companies period do to get you to buy their products. I cant even tell who this chick is with all the antics and gimmicks.
See this is why I don’t debate on blogs. Do you guys see how Flex and Random were debating, and then the personal jabs started. I watched the whole debate as it escalated more and more until it turned into an heated arguement. Shit is not that serious. First of all, the commenters of this site have to be aware that they are many many readers. When us commenters sit back and comment, the readers sit back and read our comments and judge us based on what we type. Then those readers turn into commenters and start taking jabs at us on certain topics, but the thing is, these people have animosity towards us already based on what we have typed in the past. So it’s more to it than what it appears to be. Look how may times people have came at Jamari talking all that ying yang, and they have been coming to the site for months, then all of a sudden they wanna lash out.SMH. I also want to clear something up though. I know some readers and commenters don’t like me because I have a certain preference of what I want in a man, but that it MY preference and no one elses, so respect that. Cause I can throw shade at masc. Wolves and Hybrids who fuck fems very quickly. So if it was anybody reading who wanted to knock me for that, I suggest you don’t. Why can’t we all just have our own opinions and preferences without getting knocked for it? I don’t get it, it’s ridiculous if you ask me.
Amen Bro
Pretty much. I’m chilling though.
I agree I fell for the bottom line but my intentions was to debate not argue, I don’t tolerate immature dudes making smart remarks like a kid….calling me a Stan because I don’t agree with them or support their stance on the issue in question.
Gentlemen, can we play nice in the sandbox?
Okay fellas.
keep it clean.
no need for name calling and disrespect.
I know it. That shit didn’t make sense. It was funny at first, but niggas started taking jabs below the belt.
What are you? 12? From now on, you’ll get a simple “Okay.” I think you should be able to understand that.
Are you like 5, you were the one who came at me with the whole stan crap….you were getting beat down in these debates so like the weak faggot ass nigga that you are, had to result to calling someone a Stan…samething you did to Vain. Bottom line don’t come for me on some blog with weak emotions, now you can proceed with okay. ——>
Oh. Okay.
Which is the reason I said if you were to study philosophy and socratic method, you would know what it is I’m speaking about. If you would like to read up on it, I can definitely suggest a few books to you so that you may better understand what I’m saying.
But to your point, even the concept of “authenticity” is functionally defined. So all this talk regarding me being about to “operationally define” really only supports what I’ve already said. The example of the difference between genres is an example of functional definitions.
Lets say we’re walking on the streets of New York and we spot a watch. It’s Michael Kors. You tell me, “That’s not real.” What you’re referring to is the watch being Michael Kors. Despite it having all the trappings of a Michael Kors watch, your functional definition for it not being real is the fact it wasn’t actually produced by Michael Kors. Is it a Michael Kors watch? Yes. By our functional definition, is it? No.
As I’m sure you’re asking what this has to do with anything, let me explain.
We never ever operate with actual definitions for anything. We, as a society, utilize functional definitions to categorize the world around us. It’s the only way to have order.
So, when we’re talking about what real Hip Hop is and isn’t, we’re using functional definitions and reasonable qualifiers. This is the reason why you know the difference between a Rock and Hip Hop album. You can’t tell me “Superbass”, “Starships”, or any of her other POP music is REAL HIP HOP because by functional definition, it’s not.
And if the majority of her COMMERCIAL music is NOT Hip Hop, how the hell can you call her a Hip Hop artist?
Gwen Stefani did a rap record with Eve. Does that make her Hip Hop?
You fans want so bad to support her in her Pop movement, but also want her considered a rap icon. You can’t have that shit both ways. If she’s doing Pop music, then let her be Pop and be judged by Pop standards.
Your first paragraph came off very sacastic and condescending. If that was your intention then its completely incalled for. Im simply asking for your to define the concept of what is ‘real hip hop’ using benchmarks and specific qualifiers since your brought up the topic. If your saying that since her commercial songs are pop music that that makes her a pop artists then your definition of a ‘real hip hop’ artist is someone who produces mostly ‘hip hop’ songs. Great, but that doesnt explain what ‘real hip hop’ is and is not. But thats not what the original topic was about. Nicki minaj makes all types of music. But to say that she isnt a significant artists, as you said from the beginning, completely discounts all of her album sales, single sales, and accomplishments.
I’m mobile, so I can’t respond fully. But no, that was not my intention. I was being completely serious.
I really love Nicki Minaj, I respect her hustle more than anything. I really love that she’s about her business. I just hate when people put limits on music, I feel that’s the problem with music today. I feel that music is way to segregated and people can’t just take it for what it is, there is nothing wrong with Nicki Minaj doing what she’s doing. I may not love ‘Starships’ but a lot of people do, I really feel it’s a preference thing. To some white kid in the suburbs ‘Starships’ may be the only rap song they actually like but to a hip hop head it may seem like garbage. You can’t define ‘real hip hop’ or ‘real music’ it’s up to the individual.
Lmao. If you knew who I was, what I have, and what I’m involved in, you would realize how ridiculous all of that sounds.
I’ll allow you to continue your stanning though. That’s fine with me.
Who says stan LOL! “Fem Talk” You just another one of those type of Gay niggas with an underlying Bitch quality in him….who cares what you are, didn’t you just say real artists don’t have to talk about the numbers? Well real niggas don’t have to talk about who they are and what they have….I know what I got, don’t have to prove with words non of the sort. I’ll let you continue to be a bitch made nigga with heals on.
Lmao. Jay…
I love when Random and Vain debate though, it’s like an intellectual twerking contest between two thick girls at a southern fish fry. Lol
Yes, Vain. Saying she’s the first female artist to have ‘x’ number of singles on a chart is irrelevant. The only people who quote shit like that are stans. Artists themselves don’t even bolster those accomplishments because they’re insignificant. Let me know if she’s still relevant ten years from now and then we can talk about accomplishments.
No. That’s not surprising to me. First, “Watch The Throne” is a purely Hip-Hop album. It’s not a Pop album. That limits its audience. Secondly, within that audience are many people who don’t buy albums. Ever.
Which is the reason why Nicki Minaj being a POP artist is significant because that’s who’s buying her album. It’s not Hip Hop fans. Calling a Hip Hop artist is giving her a title without the necessary credentials.
So judging this convo,
I am learning that as long as you are making money,
it is okay
you can put on an outfit made of teddy bears,
have a fake exorcism at the grammy awards,
and basically become everything you despised that you even spoke about in your own song.
Hmm.
it seems like she is living a sad life.
and that would explain why every time
i look at her face in a candid shot,
she looks like she is about to cry.
Not really that surprising. We live in a time where Rihanna, a girl that can barely carry a tune live, is a top selling artist.
I’ll engage in or read a debate about talented artists like Adele, Lauryn Hill, hell even Beyonce, but Nicki Minaj? Nawww. Lol
I don’t think she’s really happy, to be honest.
I think she’s convinced herself that what’s going on right now is a good thing because “at least she’s making money”. She’s bought into the hype that her “yes” men around her feed her. “So what you’re making bubblegum Pop music? You’re making money.”
I believe the artist that she WANTS to be isn’t the artist that she currently is and that’s why it bothers her so much to be told she’s not Hip Hop.
Look at her earlier videos. She wasn’t doing the ridiculous facial expressions. She wasn’t walking around in ridiculous clothing. In her first big hit being featured on Yo Gotti’s track, what was her appearance?
Now compare that to how she looks now.
Exactly.
People always trying to act like they’re above everything,
Based on some of these blogs you create especially about the whole baller wolves thing….and how they can blow your back out along with the sex talk that comes with it. This could be seen as a Vain concept when it comes to thinking about men. No Shade
See you’re under the impression that everything is what it seems….you have discussion on your blog daily about guys that carried themselves a certain way but behind the scenes like men. So you feel that away a person expresses themselves to the world is who they really are. All that stuff is for show the way Beyonce runs around shaking her ass wearing skimpy clothing, Rihanna constantly selling sex, Jay Z & Kanye West’s extravagant form of living it up, throwing symbols around that can be interpret as secret society gimmicks….Lady Gaga’s whole Image….Madonna and her constant changing of faces & imagery, and so far
everybody is a gimmick and does things to sell, Adele is one of few who’s trying to change that. If she sad then that’s her, life’s a bitch some people can cry about it and move on others can’t….It could be and underlying message in it all, I had to be a certain way to get notice….but now that I’m establish I can be who I always wanting to be. She’s trying to create a lane so she doesn’t get lost like every other rap chick before her. Like I said I respect the hustle not always but allot of yall niggas are reaching for ways to hate and tell everybody else do so as well.
Random and Flex, y’all niggas got me crackin the fuck up. LMAO…. I could only imagine what would happen if y’all were in a room together discussing this topic.
To be honest? I would get up and leave. I’ve done it before. I really don’t argue with people and I especially don’t argue with stans.
No, you are talking about your opinion. That is based on a personal perception. We argue opinion all day. We cannot operationally define what “Real Hip Hop” is and isn’t because its an ambiguous concept that is constantly changing. Nicki Minaj makes music. Because her music is being put out it has an affect. “Respect for the craft” is an entirely subjective concept. You can say that she’s horrible or whatever based on you standards of what music is and is not and that is totally fine. But it is not concrete.
Her selling and making money means she is doing something significant. We can point her numbers and say, “this is evidence that her music is being received well.” Simple bitch mentality, again, is your opinion. Men lie. Women lie. Numbers don’t.
Now, you’re reaching.
Few things have a true definition, Vain. You learn that studying philosophy and socratic dialogue. What we have are functional definitions; characteristics we, as a society, agree upon to be attributed to a particular idea or object. You also learn about truth and truth and the difference between the two.
Do you know the difference between Rock and Hip Hop? Of course you do. They don’t sound the same. There are characteristics that we as a society have agreed upon that distinguish the two.
To say it is an “ambiguous concept” that cannot be defined sounds nice, but it’s simply not true. Why? Because what’s true today may not necessarily be true tomorrow. There are laws of science that while having been absolute for centuries, are not definite. They just have yet to be disproven. The same goes for everything else in life. But what do we do as a society? We collectively agree on a definition or an idea. You can’t have it both ways.
Her selling and making money isn’t indicative that she’s doing anything significant. It’s an indication of the current climate of the music industry. How many one-hit wonders have come out and sold? Plenty. That doesn’t mean they are significant to music.
And you’re right. Numbers don’t lie. Which is why I suggest some of you go back and actually look at the number of units she’s moving and how quickly her album dropped from #1.
^This to me, didnt make any sense. “Whats true in society today may not necessarily be true tomorrow” is exactly why we cannot say what is “real hip hop” and what is not. Not just because it can change and often does but because the concept of hip hop in and of itself is not operationally defined. We are not discussing the difference between music genres. We are talking about there being a difference between what qualifies something as “Real” which in this context means “Authentic” versus what is “Inauthentic.” When you can operationally define what “real hip hop” is using specific criteria as benchmarks to separate it from “inauthentic hip hop”… then you can make a case about authenticity. Until then, it is simply an opinion. In this conversation alone we have not collectively agreed upon a definition or idea.
Yes, one hit wonders sell units. However, Nicki Minaj is not a one hit wonder since she’s put out multiple hit songs as well as albums that have done well. Nicki Minaj is doing something significant because she is being talked about, her music is being played, her style of rap is identifiable, her style is being emulated by the public, and we know who she is. Her selling units is how myself and others are determining her success and significant because it is CONCRETE. You can point to it. It is real. It is a bench mark. It is not subjective. It is not an opinion. So what if her album dropped from 1? It still sold. Her singles are still being played. It still continues to sell. It went Gold, right?
I’m not understanding how you are judging her success and influence outside of how you personally feel about her?
This type of conversation that annoys me, people complaining about the money being made LOL! Why get into something only to be broke….of course you get into for the craft but a hobby don’t pay the bills. What females have did what Nicki is doing and still doing name some…..being invited to SNL, constant rap verse features including artist such as Britney Spears & Madonna, performing aside a headline act at the Superbowl, several songs being on billboard charts consecutively, a number one song on the Rap charts, a couple of top 10 hits, two number one albums, sold out shows, being a leading act on several award shows, winning awards, etc….boy stop none of those past broads had this much buzz and success only Missy has had this type of following. Yeah the majority of albums are bought by suburban White kids in the 70 percent range yeah that audience….the same artist who buys Nicki records and every other hip hop record included. I bet you more White boys bought Watch the Throne then niggas in the Hood…whom are the suppose authentic real hip hop demographic. You complain about little white girls buying her shit but not white teenage boys buying Rap niggas shit…..dude get real.
You very upset about her I see LOL!
I can bring anything into discussion so fall back on that “I don’t wanna Bull” You’re not some Fifth level Intellect on the discussion of race on the Blogosphere.
The White community has way more economic clout then the Black community and the number one buyer of music is White girls Period. That’s where the money is and how you know what this woman likes or if she don’t have respect for the craft.
Just because you don’t like her shit don’t make it unauthentic…people shouldn’t have to do the same damn thing….yall basic niggas act like everybody should follow yall lead.
All that respect for the craft bullshit is meaningless because all these mofos are in the business for money, why do something you love to be broke. Especially when it comes to rap niggas who boast and brag about their finances in their damn music, c’mon son you reaching to the depths of space with that argument. ROLMFAO!
Okay.
I guess i should have clarified that Hip Hop music is not selling like it once did 10 years ago. Adele is a different kind of artist for a different type of audience. So I won’t compare the two. Watch the Throne is an album made and produced by two of the most influence people in Hip Hop music in the past 10 years. Nicki Minaj has only been on the mainstream for about 2 years now. If we’re going to say that album sales are where they used to, then Titans like Kanye and Jay Z should be going triple platinum in album sales especially on an album they did together. That is definitely evidence that music is not selling like it used to.
Actually, it is difficult to get a charting single to make TOP 10 as Nicki Minaj has done. Just ask Kelly Rowland lol There are plenty of artists who’s music we don’t hear on the radio. Yes, other past female artists have been successful. However, Nicki Minaj became the first female solo artist to have seven singles on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. That is a HUGE accomplishment that was not reached UNTIL she did it. No one is saying Nicki Minaj can do no wrong. What we’re getting at is despite how people may feel she has “sold out” or her music sucks or she is a “clown” and talk all of these negative things about her, Numbers do not lie. And Nicki Minaj is selling millions and is making money. Despite how anyone may feel about her, she is successful and we cannot depute that.
The ones that are disputing this woman so vehemently are know of as H.A.T.E.R.S. (Having, Anger, Towards, Everyone, Reaching, Success) LOL! Because at the end of the day what is their to really dispute is she not successful compared to some whom are not…..
I meant what we know
You really can’t make that statement then.
If I can’t compare her to Adele and can’t compare her to Jay and Kanye, then maybe I should compare her to Justin Bieber?
My point is, even with her albums doused in pop music, she’s pushing average numbers, at best. The bulk of consumers buying Nicki’s album are buying it for her pop music. I’m sure we can all agree on that. So, if that’s the case then you can’t blame her mediocre numbers on the market when you have artists like Gaga and Bieber moving units.
Secondly, we weren’t talking about Top 10. We are taking about singles charting. Period. That’s not at all difficult to do. Furthermore, it annoys me when people use accomplishments like being the first artist to do xyz because at a point, they become irrelevant.
“Jane Doe is the first artist to have 2 singles in the Top 10 and a number one album at the same time!”
Lmao. Like, so what?
Not mocking you at all. But stats like those are pretty irrelevant.
Stats being Irrelevant? This is concrete evidence that she is making music that is being received well. These are FACTS. Hip hop music in and of itself is not doing well at all right now so its amazing that she, especially as a female rapper, was able to sell records. Albums are not selling like they once were. Example? ‘Watch The Thrown’ has only sold 1.4 million since its debut. This is suppose to a juggernaut of an album with two heavy weights in the hip hop game who’ve been doing this for years who have missive followings. And its only sold 1.4 million thus far? That number isnt surprising to you?
So what? Nicki Minaj is doing something. Her accomplishments are significant because she is making history as a female hip hop artist. Talk to the struggling artists and Djs out there and tell them that making the charts is not hard to do and see what they say. You can down play what she has done, sure. but she’s done them nonetheless.
Can’t you feel the stan in his text? Lol.
^i do.
i respect his opinion,
but i’m very confused with his argument.
Quite frank,
Slim and Baby are her bosses.
If Baby wanted,
he could cut Wayne off.
Nicki is a caricature.
Out of that whole RR album,
you mean to tell me to tell me that only 3 songs are actually decent?
She saw the success in Super Bass and RAN with it.
So that means to tell me that she doesn’t have a mind of her own.
All that is besides the point,
the real point that you are making is “why did she not represent her brand on that stage!?”
baby and slim are NOT going to kick Nicki out of YM.
She is their bread winner, along with Drake.
She claims that no bitch would ever run her off the stage,
but if Rosenberg is a “bitch” to her,
he obviously ran her off.
busta rhymes is signed to YM and he went on anyway.
so let’s discuss his loyalty?
and tyga?
I feel nicki felt insulted and she did not go on BECAUSE SHE IS SENSITIVE.
wayne probably did not tell her shit.
point blank.
if this was lil kim who pulled this stunt,
it would be a whole nother argument of why kim is “wack”.
Nicki -0 Hot97 +1
I respect your opinion but that’s only what it is your opinion…..your whole argument to who’s losing is failure because I guarantee it won’t change a damn thing.
…opinionated people are often arrogant enough to think such, don’t be one of them now.
Lets analyzed some key facts
Baby ran off his whole brand the Hot Boys (Juvenile, B.G, Manny Fresh) so don’t tell me what he want do now.
Busta didn’t perform I don’t were you’re getting your facts from but MTV clearly stated that only Tyga perform and even he said on video that Wayne calls the shots.
..
Exactly. When you learn business and the music industry, you realize that is exactly what happened, particularly with the success of “Superbass”. That’s Business 101. Exploit your strengths.
You definitely hit the nail on the head with this:
“if this was lil kim who pulled this stunt,
it would be a whole nother argument of why kim is ‘wack’.”
This when I liked Nicki.
http://youtu.be/04IyUQdOCaw
Dropped a hot couple of bars, had her own look, kept the gimmicks to a minimum.
Are you a Hater Random because only broke people whom are failing seem to be the biggest complainers at the end of the day…..What you’re doing with shot taking is my problem with Gay Black men whom turn into the typical immature Faggot.
Did you just call Wayne the biggest act in the game? Has Kanye suddenly stopped putting out music? Has Jay-Z gone somewhere that I’m not aware of?
I can’t even have a real discussion with you if you believe that shit, lmao.
Drake had a following before he even got signed. Everybody knows that. Being on YCM didn’t do anything for him, but give him a platform to do what he was already doing. I don’t know where the hell you live, but everybody knew about Drake before he got signed. His mixtapes were already being spun heavy. Nicki, as much as I may not like her music, had a cult following before she even got signed. You pulled two acts from YCM’s 20+ roster and are calling Wayne a success. That’s less than 2%. That’s a success? Lmfao. Hilarious.
And who exactly are you listening to? I’m confused. Common’s been talking about that for years. T.I. has built a career on it. That’s the bulk of both Jay-Z and Nas’ material. Kendrick Lamar (up and coming) has mixtapes of it. Nipsey Hussle. Same thing. If all you can discuss are artists like Wayne and Nicki, I can’t even begin to have a discussion with you about Hip Hop.
At the time he was…..well then again He just won an award at the Billboard for most popular Male artist….in every genre LOL! Go ask billboard who calculates the numbers that people like you love to argue. You can go on and on we know where Drake had platinum sales and number one hits from….Young Money next —–>
Common isn’t selling like Wayne, Jay z, Kanye, or Eminem ——->Fail argument
Jay z talking about political strife and urban sprawl ROLMFAO!!! check his biggest singles kid—–>
Kendrick Lamar isn’t a mainstream selling artist ——>
Nipsey Hussle WHO? LMAO——–>
You can’t discuss because like I said what Mainstream artist with major global appeal is on that Real Hip Hop?…..I like how you tried to bypass the question by bringing some shrubs into the debate.
Flex,
are you a Nicki fan, baby?
No I respect the hustle Baby?
I’m sick of this keeping it real quote because no one really does so in society….Wayne’s her boss bottom line, until she can establish her own lane she has to follow orders and know her place. Apparently he has the winning formula because both her & Drake are winning for his brand. Black people always talking by somebody selling out, that why we stay losing…and you have niggas talking about screw Wayne go against the grain perform….hmm no wonder why Black employment is so high. This is a business at the end of the day, she has to branch out make dollars because the Streets can’t carried you, case and point Eminem….you go where the money is. Every artist has sold out from Michael who started off as RnB to becoming the King of pop to Beyonce, who rips everybody off with her constant stealing of other people’s shit. Yall need to move on and let this woman make her money and enjoy herself doing it.
^flex,
She wasn’t about that money not walking out on that Summer Jam stage,
A place where real hip hop artists showcase their skills and give back to their fans,
One of which she failed to do.
At the end of the day,
Baby and Slim are her real bosses.
They would not let Nicki go PERIOD
If she went out there and ripped it,
the check is clearing for Monday deposit.
She lost Flex.
I don’t see the win here for her besides her other accomplishments.
Those people wanted to see her regardless of them being for real hip hop or not…..define Real hip hop because nobody who mainstream is. Every rap artist today talks about the same 4 things (Money, Clothes, Drugs, & Bitches) in different formulas still the same tired ass concept. These pop starts are more diverse then these niggas spitting on rap records that’s for sure. Wayne is her mentor who’s really her manager, she has to answer to him first….she also respects his opinion, he is the main reason she is even in the Rap game period. What the check clearing has to do with anything, go against your Boss and see how long you last.
Whether she lost or not is your opinion isn’t a Fact in reality Sorry you don’t have that type of Global influence and power to change public opinion. Her fans are her fans/her haters are her haters, everybody else falls in the middle.
Her accomplish are what they are ‘success’ based on where she came from.
Wayne didn’t make Nicki and he didn’t make Drake. They both had a following before they even got signed. Any label could have taken them and gotten the same results. So no. Wayne doesn’t have a “winning formula”.
Bangladesh: no release.
T-Lopez: no release.
T-Streets: no release.
Shanell: non-factor
Mack Mane: no release.
Short Dawg: who?
Point is, don’t be blinded by the few acts on the roster who are producing. They were big before they even got signed.
Furthermore, if it’s all about her getting money, why get mad because it’s said that she sold out or that she’s not real hip hop? Take ownership of your lane and count your money, but don’t try to convince the Hip Hop world that you’re something that you’re not.
And the black community has nothing to do with this bitch being wack. Lets not even go there.
Wayne’s two major headlining acts are Nicki & Drake it would take a blind fool to not see that. Wayne’s label and influence put them on….when you have the biggest act in the game cosigning you people are going to listen. as far as those other artist, that’s they own fault Nicki, Drake, & Tyga even expanded their fan base by hard work. Those guys you mention don’t even have a song let alone a following. Nicki was not big Nor was Drake that big….in Canada maybe but when it came to Drake but nobody knew that nigga before he hit big with “Best I ever Had” I was listening to him in underground before he sign with Young Money…I told my homeboys about him they didn’t even know who he was and said he was aight….but now these niggas are hardcore Drake fans after the Young Money/Wayne influence.
Nobody convincing anything but don’t act like these niggas spitting real shit when true hip hop lies in the struggle….none of these so call real Hip hop niggas who mainstream talking about politics, police brutality, Black on Black violence, single parent house holds in such. So kill that Real Rap talk because all these dudes are commercial.
If she wack then why complain about it on Blogs? Yo opinion is yo opinion but don’t act like everybody who likes her is wack because you feel that way. “Who are you decide what’s likeable, or what fan should look like”
I’m sure people think you’re lame but because some dudes say you lame should people who like you feel that way because some dudes feel that way about you. LOL! Too much Hating going around. First yall talk about the music then you start arguing about the numbers that’s being put out…which turns into monetary value….that’s when the Hate becomes a factor because what numbers are you putting out if you think you can do better….you know what real music is don’t you? LOL!
Everything you, Jamari, have said in here, I’ve said too. She made a fool out of herself.
For one, just from a legal standpoint, she’s in the wrong. Rosenberg isn’t the one that hired her to perform. If she’s scheduled to perform and doesn’t, there are legal ramifications for not doing so. If Hot 97 had any balls, they’d sue her.
If she really wanted to lay to rest any claims of her not being a real MC, she would have gotten on stage and performed. Period. It’s a sad day when Hip Hop becomes so sensitive that someone’s opinion can keep an artist from performing. All the greats have been dissed and what do they do? Perform. Lay a diss track. They don’t leave a show and cry about being talked about. Her fans came to see her put on a show and she left them hanging.
I don’t understand how, if you call yourself a “Boss” (as she often does), you can let ANYONE keep you from performing. Lets be clear, Lil’Wayne could give two shits about Nicki. As long as that check clears, he gets paid. Lil’Wayne may be her immediate boss, but he doesn’t have final say on ANYTHING. If she wanted to perform, she could have. Why? Because at the end of the day, the check is clearing.
I also don’t understand how you can get upset for not being called a real rapper when the music you’re putting out is pop music. On her newest CD, there are MAYBE 5 rap records and even then, they aren’t particularly good tracks. That’s 5 potential rap records out of the 19 on the disc.
It offended me that she tried to make it a women’s issue. This is not about sex, this is about music. Drake gets dissed consistently for the music he puts out. There was a point in his career when Jay-Z was criticized as well. What did they do? Rebound.
What Nicki is, is a subpar new artist who’s bought into her own hype.
And can we please stop pumping up her numbers, because they’re trash. Even her singles. Her highest charting singles are her pop songs and that’s only because little white girls love the trash she’s putting out. Roman Reloaded JUST got certified gold and it struggled to get there. Her debut album sold 1.8 million units and it came out nearly 2 years ago. And this is WITH her appealing to the pop audience.
Those little white girls help pay the bills….I bet their parents’ money is longing then these complaining as niggas in the hood. LOL! Niggas worried about other people especially their own too much. If you hate her then hate her but don’t try to convince everybody else to feel the same way you do….that’s when criticisms go to far, like it does with her Haters. Why do niggas complain about Pop audiences? They are the ones who buy music instead of downloading and bootlegging people’s shit. That’s why Hip hop is failing because their core demographic, Black men, are a bunch of lazy, roggish, bitter group of Haters.
This is the type of shit that annoys me in conversations about music.
“She’s selling and getting money. So, what does it matter?”
No offense to you, but that is such a simple bitch mentality. Is she making money? Yes. As is every other irrelevant performer out right now.
This is about having respect for the craft.
Contributing to the evolution of MUSIC.
Not taking advantage of the latest trend in music to make a few bucks and then getting upset when you’re called out on it.
I don’t hate Nicki and that’s where a lot of you stans get confused. I’m talking about music.
Lets stop bringing race into the conversation because that’s a discussion you don’t want to have. When it comes to the black community, commercialism, social and governmental institutions, buying power, and the like, I know my shit. Stereotypes and generalizations will get you nowhere in that discussion.
Pumping up her numbers? Numbers do not lie. That’s all I’m trying to get at. Her highest charting singles… are still hitting the charts. Her album still went platinum. Roman Reload still went Gold. You’re putting time frames on these things as albums are selling like they used to 10 years ago. You’re favorite female rapper, who ever she may be, as of today is not doing what she is doing.
We can criticize her all day for what she is and what we’d like her to be. What we would have liked for her to do for one concert out of the many she has done and will do. Call her “sensitive” and a “sell out” and a “clown” and so on and so forth. These are all just opinions. But her music is still being played. Her albums are still selling. And she is still relevant.
Vain. You know just as well as I do that it’s not hard to get a charting single. You also know that while albums may not be selling the way they did 10 years ago, they are still selling. So lets not put her “success” in some non-existent vacuum.
Adele sold millions and is still selling.
Lauryn Hill could put out an album tomorrow and move units.
Rihanna, while having never had a number one album, has incredible worldwide sales.
“Watch the Throne”, a purely Hip Hop album, moved more than a million units in the U.S. alone. Purchased by an audience who, according to Flex, doesn’t even buy albums. So, lets be real here and call a spade a spade.
My favorite female rappers have all ALREADY DONE what Nicki Minaj is doing and then some.
Anybody will tell you, my music collection is extensive. So it’s not that I just don’t like the music she’s doing. It’s that a lot of you fans seem to think she pisses gold and that’s simply—not true.
I’m not really a fan of YMCMB anyway. There are all jokes if you ask me, and she’s the biggest joke of them all. Most of Nicki’s fans have to be young people who are under the age of 25 because I wouldn’t expect a mature adult to be a fan of that shit she puts out. I like a few of her songs, but most of them are ridiculous.
You don’t think of her as a rapper and that she has “sold out” and thats perfectly fine. You are entitled to feel that way. People may want hardcore, hip hop personas but in reality, when female artists do it, they don’t last very long. They try to act, talk, and rap like men and the public isn’t really receptive to it for more than a brief moment. But in her interviews, she says she is happy with where she is. Roman Reloaded was her chance to really branch out and do projects that she wants to do. I personally don’t try and place a template of what I think she should be doing. I take her for who she is I like some of the music she makes. This is only her second album and she hasn’t even been out that long. Wayne her is Boss. Wayne put her on. Because of Wayne, Nicki Minaj has reached the level she is it. Why wouldn’t you listen to him? Rosenberg said something negative, Wayne had a gut reaction, and they went with it. No, she is not immune to criticism and she is well aware of that. But I can understand where they were coming from… if you don’t like their music and feel as though they are not “real hip hop”… don’t book them.
^They booked her,
Her team crowned her a boss,
A DJ said something about her,
She had a chance to walk out on that stage,
Drop all that Barbie shit and SPIT,
Shut Rosenberg up and gain respect for her actual rhymes,
She didn’t,
And now she looks like a clown that sold a bunch of records.
That is one possible scenario that could have happened… yes…
But Nicki’s album was meant to appeal to a wide audience. This is due to the success of “Super Bass” as a single which went QUADRUPLE-platinum in digital sales. She discovered that those in other arenas were listening to her music and she decided to appeal to them. Why is that simple concept so hard to understand? Her Techno shit sucks? “Starships” still went platinum and that didn’t happen by accident. Roman Reload STILL reached No.1 on billboard charts. Numbers do not lie. Rosenberg didn’t like “Starships”? Keep that to yourself until you get back in front of the mic. In the meantime, please let the artists have their time.
How are you going to let Lil Wayne stop you from performing in your own city? Because little Lil Wayne is her boss. And when your boss makes a call, you follow. Plain and simple.
^ The man who sung Mambo No5
and the group who sung Who Let The Dogs Out also pushed units, so what is the point?
All this techno shit and she has yet to get a number one album with Roman Reloaded.
Just because the barbs run out and by 3 or 4 albums,
download singles to make number one,
And then it falls off the charts after the first 2 weeks doesn’t mean you are a good mc.
As you can already see,
Music is pretty bad these says so it doesn’t take much to have a hot couple of numbers.
I’m talking about what happened on this Summer Jam stage (or, lack there of)
The whole point is this Rosenberg called her out for her WACK music,
And instead of her being this “boss bitch” she claimed she was,
she went to Negril with two washed up artists and took pictures LOLOL with her standard “hip hop” wig, I might add.
Nicki is sensitive.
And she is talking all these woman rights shit,
But I don’t see her defending that when Wayne is disrespecting women, and even her, in his music.
She lost this battle.
Flex was being corny and licking her box from back to front.
His voice had no “ruin careers” PERIOD in that phone call.
If that was Radio Wendy or ol Jonesy back in the day,
They would have said:
“well guess what bitch? You ain’t do shit for New York but all this stat talking. You got ran off the stage by a DJ, who didn’t even diss you AND knows you because he has gmail convos with you both back in the day when you were a nobody. we had a real female MC, by the name of Lauryn Hill anyway so….”
… And cold hung up on her 10 minutes in.
These DJs are dick riders now and scared to tell the truth.
Rosenberg told the truth.
Jews stay winning.
Album sales are album sales. You can’t put an opinion as part of it because they are not concrete. Numbers are. She sold 3.5 Million units within 2 years. Thats an accomplishment. I’m not understanding what you mean by her “she has yet to get a number one album with Roman Reloaded”? I think you meant single since the album itself hit No.1 on the charts. Her music sells, plain and simple. Her dance music isn’t wack to those who listen to dance music, go to any white club and watch what happens when “Super Bass” or “Turn Me On” or “Starships” plays through the speakers. You’ll be amazed.
On the topic of Summer Jam, Rosenberg made a comment and Wayne said they weren’t going on, and regardless of how anyone may feel… if your boss makes an order, you follow. I don’t know too many people who go against their boss’ orders and still remains in their boss’ favor. He writes her checks and governs the majority of her career so of course she’d go along with what he says. Nicki Minaj is the only female MC out there who’s really doing big it right now. Most people’s favorite female artists usually falls off by the second album. We can continue to bring up past MC like Lauren Hill, who despite being a great artist, really only had 1 great solo album. But in reality, Hip Hop is a really tough place for female MCs as it is a male dominated music community and they don’t buy many female artists records. I’m still waiting on waves of support for previous female MCs like Trina, Rah Digga, Remy Ma, etc who are/were out there doing their thing.
^that is sad because I don’t even think of Nicki as a rapper anymore.
IMO, she is a glorified pop star.
She may be selling, but she has sold out.
Her whole persona has gotten extra and that Grammy performance was absolutely awful.
She cannot look in the mirror and actually be happy this is what she has become.
Rosenberg usually says this about ANY hip hop artist.
Nas and Outkast have felt it.
Even LL.
She is not immune to being criticized.
She was being sensitive and so was Wayne.
She is not the boss she claims she is
because Wayne controls her every move.
Wayne got her looking like a damn cartoon character.
Dear Old Nicki…. I jest.
I am getting into Azaelia Banks and I am hoping she keeps it 100.
Jamari PLEASE get on TeamKim cause i can’t take all these nicki gif’s, ugh she irritates me so much from her conceited personality to her wack ass bubble gum lyrics.
Nicki knows her last album was trash. There’s nothing wrong with trying to appeal to a different audience as long as u don’t forget who made u
That child has been smoking too much bath salt. God bless her.. that lacefront glue has manage to eat her brain cells…..what does being a woman have to do with your album being wack?
If you were a dude, your album would have STILL been wack!
If you were SO concern about being the ONLY woman on stage, you could have come hard on that damn album…
Child Boom. Nicki Minaj thought she was a serious artist. Homegirl don’t know she is just a puppet, making Lil Wayne’s ‘daddy’ richer. She is a complete opposite of who she was when she FIRST came out. Lil Kim stays in her ass because Nicki is messy and VERY disrespectful. She has sold out and her last album reflects that. She is only as a good as her last record these days.
Hip Hop of today is SO soft. Old school hip hop would have just spit a diss verse and STILL collect that check, not pull out like a punk!
Funkmaster Flex….#ICANT
