listen,
toys r us is responsible for my youth!
my teenage mutant ninja turtles action figure collection was poppin!
i thought i was big shit when i got april o’neal’s news van.
don’t even get me started on my batman action figures.
my mother ended up throwing them all out when we moved.
i’m stilllllllllllll bitter about that shit.
i was shocked that they shut down the flagship store in times square.
i didn’t go in there in years,
but still…

alas,
everyone i told today wasn’t shocked.

Do the cubs even still play with toys these days?

they claim amazon is shutting everything down.
isn’t that a little scary?
soon from now,
we’ll have no stores to go into anymore.
i’m glad i got to experience all the 90s brought tho.
it was a great time to be alive.
all those toys r us should be gone by february thru april.

  1. It’s so weird, but I can remember every time I’ve been there as a child to a get a toy. Me getting material things was me and my father’s “bonding time”, I guess. I remember wanting this Tomb Raider(My favorite video game series of all time) action figure sooo bad, but was scared that my dad would find out I was gay and disown me…smh LoL
Or when I got money for Christmas and didn’t care about anything but going to Toys ‘R Us and buying a PS2 w/ GTA3 and Final Fantasy X. Oh the memories! It’s such a shame they’re closing, but Amazon is truly taking over the retail industry. Now that I think of it, me and my friends had all donated toys for kids in need for the holidays and I didn’t even think to go to Toys ‘R Us. I bought everything on Amazon πŸ˜•

    1. It is sad. They couldn’t compete with Walmart/Amazon/Target (who aren’t all that cheap any more).

I remember when I was younger I won one of those contests where you get a shopping spree, where you have to get as much as you can in your cart within a few minutes. I can’t remember if it was 5 minutes or 10, but I know Christmas was VERY good in our house that year! Toys R Us had some good memories for my family. They will be missed!

  2. Oh the memories. I used to spend hours just looking at every toy in the store. The way society and forms of entertainment/ fun, is drastically changing; it’s so weird to me.

  3. Damn! I guess I shouldn’t be surprised the kids of today are more into social media and electronics. Plus with stores like Walmart which is a one stop shop and has cheaper toys ToyRUs didn’t stand a chance.

I remember when my parents got me a game boy color with the PokΓ©mon game in the late 90s for having good grades. I was so happy 😁 and couldn’t wait to play it.

P.S. this news reminds me when they clos d dothe n Discovery Zone, I use to Love that place.

  4. Major malls are disappearing as well. Downtown Miami’s “Omini Mall” was the wall everyone flock to in the 80s and 90’s. JC Penny, Burdines, Jordan Marsh, chick fil A just to name a few were in one area of the building. It was a hang out for cool kids after school and the famous marry go round and movie theater. All of this is memories. This year Macy’s is disappearing in Downtown Miami and last year that old Kmart looked bad marketing wise and even those dreadful interior display. Good ridden!

  5. Toy’R’Us was overpriced and never adapted to the every changing society and Game Stop is next. They are going to have to rethink their business model and should look into other business ventures to put in their portfolio if they have not already done so. They could possibly open up something similar to the Pizza / arcade model to include toys and get some big name movies like Star Wars and etc. to get their company profiting and hire a lot of interns that are social media savvy to get their name back out their.

  6. The weird thing is they’re shutting down stores in the Bay Area, but also opening new ones here as well. I wonder what gives.

  7. Damn well guess I’ll buy the toysrus exclusives while I still I have a couple Action figures and etc. I been meaning up collect.

  8. This is really sad πŸ™. Although I live in the Caribbean and we don’t have Toys R Us here I can still remember when my Aunt would visit and bring me Legos and she would also bring the catalog with all the other toys.

  9. Toys are a thing of the past, Future generations missed a great era..Oh well. Toys R Us better change their plans and invest in some sex dolls…cause Barbie is Felicia now…
