You know, just like Quincy, when “some” of you Foxholers reach those “golden years” you’re going to reflect on all the things that happened in your past. All the things you did and didn’t do, all the secrets and everything. True or untrue.
When I was younger (late teens), I worked in a nursing home part-time & you met a lot of elderly folk, and you grew attached to them, which was good and bad. One day they were here and the next day or few days, you’d see a few family members gathered around the room hugging close. I knew what time it was then. I knew I would never see them after that.
One thing about the elderly is they ALWAYS have a lot of stories to tell about what they did, how they did it, who did it and to what degree it was done in their younger years. (P.S. They are some freaks too!) 😓
Sometimes it’s true, other times it’s foggy memory but, it like that idiom, “A drunk mind expresses a sober heart.” So they remember quite a few things well.
However, I notice that if they remember one thing, it’s always who they really loved. They always provide that warning. “Find someone to love & spend the rest of your life with because when you get closer to that ‘time’ it will be so much better. It’s not good to go away alone.”
