my apartment just officially broke up with me

i had my housing meeting this morning about my apartment.
another chapter in this long running saga since october.
it has been stress and anxiety since then.
i woke up early,
sat across from the board,
along with my landlord across from me.
after over 15 years in the same walls,
the verdict landed with perfect holiday timing…

i have about a month left here.

a decade and sine change have been packed into thirty days.
i’m still processing what that means.
the sadness is real but the shock even more so.
instead of calling it an eviction,
i’m leaning into a re-frame:

a relocation, not loss.
a shift, not a punishment.
a beginning disguised as an ending.

so yes,
i’ll be boxing up my life and labeling memories with tape.
these walls witnessed:

joy
unemployment

a pandemic
recessions
brokenness
a few one night stands
work wolf saga

ww3 saga
the beginning and end of a few friendships
how much elections?
mourning star fox’s death
the birth of The Foxhole

…and now i’m stepping into a new space i haven’t met yet.
one i don’t know where,
tbh.

i’ll share updates as it unfolds; one cardboard box at a time.

what do you do when the place you’ve called home suddenly gives you an expiration date?

lowkey: what a great holiday season!
/end sarcasm here.

  1. So sorry to hear this Jamari but I hope things work out, especially given the season. Wishing you the very best for 2026 and beyond.

PS: Some day I’ll figure out how to sign up for your private site.

  2. Wishing you the best during this transition but it’s past time. I change apartments every 2-3 years usually for better amenities, cheaper cost or better location. I agree it could be a blessing in disguise. I hope you were looking during this whole debacle
