wentworth miller wants to break out of the prison that is “playing straight guys in movies and tv”

i’ve never watched “prison break“,
but i know so many folks who were into it.
i know vixens were really into wentworth miller,
one of the main characters on the show,
even after finding out he is gay.
it seems that he is tired of playing “straight” especially on “prison break”…

“This is my favorite IG account,” someone wrote in response to a recent post. Thank you. I want you to know I saw that. I see the positive comments and DMs (a lot of them anyway). Affectionate. Supportive. Appreciated (by me). Obviously there are comments and DMs I appreciate less. Who are these people? On my page? What backwards-ass, Stone Age values country did they crawl out of? The U.S.? I won’t be disappearing (too many cool things to repost). The ability to comment likely will. I’m not concerned for myself. I can’t be “bullied” in this space. I have too much power. “Delete. Block. Deactivate.” Etc. But I take seriously the possibility of queer kids visiting here, recently out of the closet or exploring the idea… I don’t want them exposed to bullshit. On a related note… I’m out. Of PB. Officially. Not bec of static on social media (although that has centered the issue). I just don’t want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told). So. No more Michael. If you were a fan of the show, hoping for additional seasons… I understand this is disappointing. I’m sorry. If you’re hot and bothered bec you fell in love with a fictional straight man played by a real gay one… That’s your work. – W.M. ????️‍????

is that show even still on the air?
i read there will be a new season,
but how much times are they planning on breaking outta prison?
the show went from 2005 to 2017.
it’s time to end or introduce new characters.
that being fonted,
he has a right to play whoever he wants.
as an actor tho,
its your job to transfer into various characters regardless of sexuality.

You’re a gay guy playing a gay guy.
Okay cool!

its like florals in the spring.

to me,
he sounded kinda pretentious,
but he might not want to be typecasted as the “gay straight guy“.
i do get his follow-up statement tho:

So many messages of support and encouragement… Thank you. I’m taking it in. I only hope – thru my acting/writing, what I share online – that energy is returned in some way/shape/form… I didn’t anticipate my previous post going so far, so fast, and feel motivated to offer a follow-up… Am I saying gay actors (gay men, specifically) should only play gay parts? No. I was speaking for myself. At this point in my life/career, it’s what feels interesting, inspiring, right. That said, do I want to see more gay parts played by gay actors? Yes. It makes a difference performance-wise (IMO), but also bec straight actors playing “gay” centers straightness. Doesn’t matter if they’re “acting” – I still know what I’m looking at. (Does this dynamic exist on a spectrum with porn genres like “gay-for-pay” and the prioritization/fetishization of straight/”masc” men over gay/”femme” men in the gay community? Conversations for another time.) PB was challenging, onscreen and off. Did anyone involved tell me, explicitly, to bury my gayness for the show’s sake? No. Had I already received enough messaging from Hollywood/the larger culture/the schools I went to/my family of origin such things go unspoken lest you risk punishment, losing rights/privileges? Yes. One of the ironies of the closet is I became my own jailer. “Prison Break” indeed. (I’ve said it before – the universe has a sense of humor.) I haven’t spent my career on “Pose” and “Looking.” Didn’t work out that way. What I’ve done is a lot of action-adventure, and that’s come with a diverse fanbase. Within that is a homophobic subgroup and their shit’s been washing up on my shore. They dig “Michael” but have a problem with me. It’s got that “Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin” energy. They’d prefer I keep quiet, dial it down. Don’t Remind Them. No. My gayness was largely erased (by me, for starters) in the first decades of my career. It is my want, now, to center it in a way that cannot be missed by myself or anyone else. – W.M. ????️‍????

  1. He is not black. He’s mixed, mulatto or biracial. Mixed, mulatto or biracial people are not black and it’s racist to call such people black.

What it means to be black
To accept the racist “one drop” theory is racist and accepts a central tenet of white supremacy, which is blackness as a taint. “Black” is not a philosophy, a club or a way of life. “Black” is a race. “African American” is an ethnic group within the black race as is Haitian, Nigerian or Kenyan. Just as Irish or Irish American is an ethnic group within the white race as is Italian, French or German.

The one-drop theory is part of the white supremacy trifecta, which has been largely successful in crippling the black mind (by indoctrination, brainwashing, conditioning, socialization): 1. White/European Jesus (AKA White Jesus), 2. White/European standards of beauty and 3. White/European invented, fostered, foisted, and imposed “one-drop” theory

Nor is being black defined by skin color. The black race has the highest rate of albinos of any race. And yes, such albinos are fully black. On the other hand, this so called “one-drop” theory that says that if you are part black, then you are black is a bunch of bull. First, it was invented by the racist white slave-owner for the benefit of the racist white slave owner for their racist purposes and not by or for the slave. And I will not have my views dictated by dead racist white slave-owners. Second, it’s racist. It’s based on the theory that black blood is a taint so much so that it taints and spoils all the other blood that is there. And that as a taint, all must be thrown in the garbage that is the black. We’re not going to co-sign on a racist theory that sees us and our ancestors as the functional equivalent of garbage. (We are not garbage and neither are our ancestors!) If you co-sign on the racist one-drop theory, then you are co-signing on racism. Third, it has no basis in reality or logic. It says foolishly—and divorced from logic: “To get more oil, just add water.” (With the black heritage being the “oil” and the anything else being the “water”) That’s foolish. At some point, if you add water to oil, it becomes watery oil and later it becomes oily water. And if you add enough water to the oil, it becomes virtually indistinguishable from plain water and will be fit to drink. At some point if you add water to oil, it becomes unable to lubricate and stops functioning as oil. The “one-drop” theory is inherently racist!

Therefore, Pan-Africanist American-African writer, historian and professor John Henrik Clark wisely said “You cannot make a good African between the legs of a European woman.” Dr. Claud Anderson came to the same conclusion saying, “If I pour water into gasoline I didn’t make it any stronger, I made it weaker.” You cannot make more “oil” by simply adding “water”. To think that you can is foolish, divorced from logic—and racist.

(Racism is the belief that one race is inferior or superior to another race. The “one-drop” theory with blacks as a taint, as garbage clearly fits into that racist scheme.)

Now, there are people who are sufficiently diluted of their black DNA that they are not black. No race of people is “pure” so having some other-than-black ancestry does not make you not black. Just like having some other-than-white ancestry does not make you not white. Certainly if your non-black DNA is equal to or equivalent to your black DNA, then you are not black. Furthermore, one’s race or ethnicity is not like a club. You either are or are not “born that way”. You can’t join it like a club. They are people—just not black people. They are humans—just not black humans. Such people include Senator Kamala Harris (who is apparently ¼ black), President Obama, Meghan Markle, Valerie Jarrett, Mariah Carey, David McIntosh, Boris Kodjoe, Shemar Moore, Halle Berry, Tiger Woods, Benjamin Jealous (former head of the NAACP who is 90% white by DNA), Melisa Harris-Perry, Jesse Williams, etc. (Halle Berry foolishly said that since she was black, her daughter is also black. Well, the fact is that Halle Berry is half-black so is biracial and that her daughter is born of a white man so is ¾ white! Such foolishness!) (And Tiger Woods is ¼ black and ½ Chinese! Yet some want to call him black! Correction: He’s mixed race!) Such people are mixed, mulatto or biracial. We oppose racism in all its forms and permutations (including the racist canard called the “one-drop” theory) and we ask you to oppose racism in all its forms and permutations too. When you know better, you do better.

    1. ….This. This whole post. Yikes!!!

I feel like Dean spends way too much time at home dying to make an excessively long troll post, but this whole spiel, ironically, is a form of racist gate-keeping (and idk how you don’t see that)

Look, you can be “woke” and for the people, but this is embarrassing and I’m really sorry you think that way, fam. Don’t be acting colorist out in these streets and putting down people who share parts of your heritage.

Man, this is so sad to read.

      1. How was this colorist when he didn’t try to say only darker-skinned people are Black? This man would never experienced what a Black person does and it’s gaslighting to act like he would.
It’s funny how Barack Obama who unless he TOLD you he was biracial you wouldnt know, and people act like he doesn’t look Black. All if takes is someone Black giving Blackness to a biracial then suddenly everyone “sees it”.

This man plays White roles so I don’t get why people are acting weird.

Some examples of Black people wanting to be biracial are Bow Wow. The man hasn’t been mixed a day in his life but he thinks people would fall for it because he has lighter eyes. Black people can have any eye or hair color. (I happen to have a hair color commonly associated with White people and I’m 100% Black)And don’t get me started on people like Zoe Saldana claiming she’s not Black, but taking Black roles. She’s probably changed her tune after BLM though.

If Zoe Saldana isn’t Black (despite looking Black and speaking Spanish doesn’t make you biracial), Wentworth Miller CERTAINLY is not!

I did find the “nobody is 100% anything” to be truthful. Tell that to an Asian person where there’s an extremely homogenous genetic pool. Having 0.00000001% of a slave master’s DNA does not a biracial make!

        It’s okay to be BLACK!

    2. Sorry Dean, that’s just plain ignorance. Self identification is important and should be considered. My mom had a white father but her and and her siblings have always been “Black” and proud. Plus there is a reason they call Obama the first Black president. To call him the first mixed president would be silly and diminish his own identity.

    3. Thank you for the comment and speaking the truth. Also, I hope we get our first black male and female President in our lifetime.

      1. Wentworth has never said he was black, he has always identified as mixed. After he made this post he changed his profile and included that he was gay/queer and racially mixed.Unfortunately there are still people today on his page trying to erase his sexuality and his racially mixed ancestry and of course posting Bible verses and homophobic BS.
I think it would be great if he played a racially mixed role sort of like the one he played in The Human Stain but gay, of course.

  2. I support Wentworth’s decision. I follow his IG and I’ve noticed people on his page try to erase or minimize his sexuality and his mixed race. When people mention his sexuality or him being mixed often times “some fans” ask why are people bringing that up or say those things don’t matter.Well they are apart of who he is, so they matter just like him discussing his mental health issues matters. They are not weaknesses or taboo topics that should be avoided.

I was happy to read he will be returning to Law & Order SVU playing ADA Isaiah Holmes who happens to be gay.BTW I think Wenthworth’s first love is screenwriting not acting so this is not really a big sacrifice to turn down straight roles.

  3. He does good work. People still have issues with his sexuality which is stupid. I think he even gets flack because he’s mixed. Social media is the worst.

  4. Okay…
    I get it but I’m like okay…
Like this was an inner battle with yourself and there really isn’t a reason to make this announcement.
He could have just literally start playing gay characters and still do an occasionally non sexuality defined character and we would be like oh cool!
Hollywood right now has to make up for the lack of diversity they previously handled like the racists they are.
So they are casting 50% everything; that means there will be roles available for you Wentworth.
For an actor to say I want to only play this and that because of who I am is like eh…bruh as long as you are great in the role we don’t care!
Straight men playing gay is actually true performance because you are playing outside of yourself so yes it is impressive to do it well. The same way he was convincing Being gay and playing a straight character for years so to me sexually isn’t as controversial as race where white ppl think they can just take black stories and make it their own.
I feel like this was a thinking aloud moment and a way to low key shame the homophobes but it’s like yo we’ve known you were gay for YEARS and people still rocked with you.
People will always complain about something. If not your sexuality they’ll say oh he’s not black characters only racially ambiguous ones, or yes too this and too that so get over it!

  5. Fun Fact: He’s black.

Remember when he played the side piece in Mariah’s “We belong Together” and “Like That” music videos?
