was 1999 when america was the last “great” time?

randomly,
i decided to put on christina aguilera’s debut album last night.
i haven’t heard it in a while but i still knew every song word for word.

“Come on over,
come on over baby…” – track 5

“When you put your hands on me,
I feel sexy and my body loses control…” – track 9

“Caught up in emotions,
I’m out of control,
Isn’t it obvious…” – track 12

when her album came out,
i was a kid and my mother was still alive.
we were living in a bomb crib and rent was cheap for 3 bedrooms.
fast food tasted better,
the future seemed brighter,
and the only “social media” was sneaking into her aol account.
’99-2000 was probably the best time in my life but i had to wonder…

Was America great before 2001?

i feel like when 9/11 happened,
it started to be a ticking time bomb and on the last day of 2019,
everything exploded into the mess that is “now”.

Our leadership sucks
The country is divided
We can’t afford to live
Mass violence goes unchecked or bringing about changes
Legit crazy people are running wild with platforms on social media

 growing up,
florida was always associated with being a “happy” place.
disney and my family members were there.
it was supposed to be my home after my mother passed too.
i’m glad living there didn’t end up working out because in 2o23:

@kosmickarly To my fellow LGBTQ folks in Florida, sending love during these terrifying times ???? #dontsaydesantis #queer #wlw #wlwcouple #bandesantis #lesbiansoftiktok #gay ♬ original sound – Kosmickarly

are we reliving the 1950s again?
or whatever era everyone was in duress?
is this what they mean when they were making america great again?
the messaging behind it seems to be filled with hatred and insanity.
i had to wonder…

Are we too far gone to turn this all around?

…and what will it take an alien invasion,
a thanos snap,
or for all the boomers in government to die to get this back in control again?

lowkey: i think,
maybe,
did we take the good times for granted?
we are in an amazing time where technology is making life easier and fun,
but the outside forces and the powers that b are def not.

  1. I have said it before and say it again
“The only option to create or ameliorate change is to quit spending”.
A well organized economic boycott, nationally is the ONLY option. Money or lack of it is the ONLY attention grabber. These Southern states are just hotbeds of toxic white female and male masculinity, white privilege, white grievance. The Jews saw it coming in Nazi Germany, but cowered like sitting ducks to the tune of six million murdered in the most egregious ways imaginable. 1999 was a stellar year to be alive, healthy and well. We cannot turn back time, but only if we could!
