What if masculinity wasn’t what we were taught to admire?
What if it was something quieter,
steadier,
and far more powerful?

when someone loves us for who we are,
not for our highlight reels,
not for our past,
and not for who they want us to be but:

The real,
unfiltered,
and sometimes ugly us.

yes,
the ugly us.
the one underneath the filters.
the one that has the demons and the insecurities.
when they don’t flinch or are embarrassed at our flaws.
the one who don’t play bout you and will square up if someone disrespects you.

You better hold on to them.

i used to believe masculinity lived in the gym.
it was big biceps,
played sports,
and an intimidating stare.
some males,
sure,
but i’ve learned:

Just because someone looks like a man,
that doesn’t mean they act like one.

muscles don’t equal depth; a scowl doesn’t make you safe.
masculinity is not a role we play,
a script we memorize,
or photos we post.
it’s how we show up for ourselves and our loved ones,
especially when no one’s watching.
i thought about this when alex fine spoke out after cassie’s testimony yesterday…

Have you ever wondered why so many of us cling to the idea of our parents,
even when we know they might not be the heroes we grew up believing them to be?

it’s funny,
we love our parents but deep down,
we don’t always want to admit they can be…
well,
monsters.
i think it’s natural for kids to stand by their parents.
so when the diddy kids post something in support of their father…

it’s going to be hard to get rid of diddy.
there will be a war against the jackals for him.
they took r. kelly but they won’t take diddy too!
i was just listening to the lox’s first album today.

Diddy was all over that.

he is all over mary.
he is all over kim.
he is all over big.
he is all over the 90s.
diddy is responsible for our millennial classics,
if you grew up on the east coast.
summertime was usually when bad boy ruled supreme.
his music is associated with a lot of childhood memories for me.
you can’t font that he didn’t make hits.
his latest hit is his rape of ( x alleged 17 year old with 3 others ).
rolling stone is on his ass so you know it’s not looking good.
