so a few months ago,
i was obsessed with anything dark phoenix from x-men.
even tho she is the “bad” side,
i was feeling a connection to jean grey within my spirit.
i even had an image i found on google as my phone wallpaper.
it was a real situation.
well i saw the trailer for the upcoming “dark phoenix” movie…
…and i’m not blown away.
like,
at all.
why jennifer lawrence there again?
doesn’t mystique have something else to do?
even tho i love jessica chastain,
and looking forward to her role,
i won’t even get into all the mis-castings with the rest.
i don’t even like who they chose to play dark phoenix,
so there’s that.
this is the plot:
In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.
… and it sounds decent,
but the trailer didn’t make me want to put this on my calendar.
i’m very “eh” with it.
hopefully they’ll make it interesting by valentine’s day.
I hope y’all aint paying for this foolishness? These stories have been around forever and they are boring and tired. These same characters over and over.
I know of a guy trying to push a series with an all black cast based on African concepts. It’s fresh, new and innovative and yet, folks keep entertaining these boring X-Men characters.
They go crazy over Black Panther, a series created by a white man, but can’t give a dollar to black folks that make series for black people.
Black Panther was such clever scheming marketing it hurts. You had black folks going to go see it who knew nothing about it. It was such a bad display of fish bait…oiii.
Meanwhile, Storm and other superheroes of color will continue to be the supporting characters with one liners because none of us really knows what lighting does to a frog?
Also, these movies will NEVER put the women characters above their male counterparts, even if certain characters such as Storm are much stronger… Look at how they botched her in the X-Men anime. They may be powerful but to Hollywood they are still women. Expect Storm to be lost without cause because she misplaced her umbrella and Jean Grey is just PMSing cause she need some X-Factor peen.
This is just to bait more women to the screen.

Jammy…They’re boring and tired because you have people working on them that have NO CONCEPT of the characters and their universe. They claim to be fans, but when you see the end result, it makes you want to just knock them upside the head. Many fans are just happy that these films are being made…and that is what these execs and self-professed fans (directors/producers/screenwriters) are counting on. Real fans be damned, they’re trying to get the casual fans into seats.
Singer didn’t know shit about the characters. He managed to fuck up the dynamics of the team and put Wolverine in the forefront, along with Magneto and Mystique…at the expense of the rest of the characters (Storm, Cyclops, Jean, Iceman, etc). Even though X2 is my favorite of all of the films, he even managed to mess that up, sidelining the other characters in favor of Wolverine, Mystique, and Magneto. Was glad he left, and hoped he could make amends with DOFP…but that was fucked up too as ONCE AGAIN we had those three headlining, this time with a new, younger Mystique.
First Class was a joke, since we never got the original five X-Men. Instead we got a mashup of characters from various eras of the X-Men universe. We meet Sebastian Shaw and Emma Frost in First Class, but not for the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix saga?! They were an instrumental part in her becoming Dark Phoenix. I’m like where did they find these people to write these scripts/screenplays? How could you call yourself a fan and mess up continuity like that? Unless I’m missing something.
If they had people who really knew the stories and characters, perhaps these movies would’ve turned out better than they did. But when you have pretenders making attempts, you get the mess we’ve had for the past number of years.
Ironically, the same thing happened with the Transformers films, and you see what happened with those films also. Self-professed “super-fans” (Kurtzman & Orci) seriously fucked up everything we knew about the characters and the world of Transformers.
Oh Lord, please… anything but the transformer films…I brought my cousin the original anime because he was a Transformers fan and I used to watch all his old DVDs…When I saw the newer movies….my gawd….make it stop…it hurts.
The phoenix and dark phoenix saga in the x-men comics are epic it is one of if not the best X-men story out of the whole series. To be honest I didn’t have much hope it this movie and thought they were going to nix it since the Disney Fox deal happened but I guess not. This trailer showed me nothing of the epic story or the great power of the phoenix. I’m ready to see what Marvel will do.

Get a new cast Stat! Especially Storm…and we want costumes! I think that’s partly why the Marvel movies are successful , we can connect with the characters from the comics we grew up with because they Look like the characters from the book. Those black costumes are definitely not it…

It pretty much looked like ‘X-Men The Last Stand’ to me. At this point I’m glad that Marvel has the rights back so we can finally get a good comic book accurate X-men movie
