The COVID-19 Omicron variant has been detected in multiple cases in New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Thursday evening.

Hochul said there are now a total of five confirmed cases in the state including one in Brooklyn, two in Queens and one in Long Island’s Suffolk County.

The Long Island patient, a 67-year-old woman, had recently returned from South Africa, Hochul said.

“No cause for alarm, we just want to make sure the public is aware of information when we receive it,” Hochul said.

“The best thing anyone can do is realize we’re not defenseless against this variant at all,” the governor added as she urged New Yorkers to get vaccinated and receive booster shots.

“We have to assume there’s community spread,” de Blasio said as officials cautioned the cases they had heard of had been with mild symptoms.

I feel like everyone is gonna catch the Rona at some point.

i hope this isn’t the case,
but it is a possibility the way shit is going.
i’m gonna protect myself and continue doing what i’m doing.
people know we are in a pandemic and they don’t gaf until it affects them.
so the chances of this being over or manageable are slim.
