It Made Me Uncomfortable

oklolfirst and foremost,
i love paramore.
i own their first album and it still gets spins.
i love hayley william’s voice as well.
well she was recently vocal about miley cyrus ratchet performance on the vmas and all i can say is:

FINALLY!
SOMEONE GETS IT!…

she spoke on 98.7 amp radio in detriot to let her voice be heard…

listen from 2:50:

It seems like more people are focusing on the trashiness or the dancing, the clothes. But I, actually, am uncomfortable with the racial aspect of it. I feel like she’s sort of taking a culture that isn’t really hers and sort of using it as an accessory, and that actually bothers me more…. I feel like maybe someone needs to go to her and sort of explain the race issue.

I’m not going to be the artist that goes around throwing accusations that other artists are racist. I’m not gonna go there. I do think it’s a little insensitive, and it definitely seems as though there were black women onstage with her that…kinda felt like accessories more than anything else. I felt uncomfortable about that. I think Miley’s a 20-year-old girl who’s going to experience, or try to experience, new things for the first time, and that does include partying and wearing certain things that people aren’t going to feel comfortable with, and that, to me, is the lesser of any of the evils. That part doesn’t make me as uncomfortable.

tumblr_m545wfIicx1qihztbo1_500i love it when white people get it.
now if only we could get the rappers and blacks to get it as well.
then again she looks like a potential “song seller” and “new fan base” for them.
i can see the appeal.

lowkey: i wonder what p!nk thinks about it?

  1. Agreed, Miley can hide around her whiteness and millions in the bank, if something really pops off. She can act ratchet but she does not have to worry about being gunned down, or denied service or respect because of the skin she is in. I have seen it so many times, I think of Madonna,Vanilla Ice, Pink, Marky Mark just to name a few, they were all down for us when they were in their teens and early 20’s using us and imitating our art form because it was cool and then they grew up and they distance themselves from us. Miley will do the same when she gets in her 30’s. I know some real bone deep in the hood ghetto twerkers but of course MTV would never show them or give them any shine, they dont want real black culture only the watered down version that makes whites comfortable. I only saw snippets of her performance and the awards but I see I didnt miss anything and from what I understand, no Black performers even won any of the awards but everyone who copied and imitated us did. Go figure.

  2. EXACTLY! I wasn’t offended by her clothing removal or her lack of dancing skills. Her performance was MINSTRELSY. It was offensive. Black (and Gay) ppl aren’t accessories.
