boomers, gen x, and millennials might not be on that gay shit, but gen z is on that bisexual shit

some of the boomers ain’t with the gay shit.
some of the gen xer’s might tolerate it.
some of the millennials may accept it.
gen z seems to be all about it and proud?
in a recent study with “gallup“,
gen z are checking the “bisexuality” box

Gallup’s latest update on lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender identification finds 5.6% of U.S. adults identifying as LGBT. The current estimate is up from 4.5% in Gallup’s previous update based on 2017 data.

More than half of LGBT adults (54.6%) identify as bisexual. About a quarter (24.5%) say they are gay, with 11.7% identifying as lesbian and 11.3% as transgender. An additional 3.3% volunteer another non-heterosexual preference or term to describe their sexual orientation, such as queer or same-gender-loving. Respondents can give multiple responses when describing their sexual identification; thus, the totals exceed 100%.

Rebasing these percentages to represent their share of the U.S. adult population finds 3.1% of Americans identifying as bisexual, 1.4% as gay, 0.7% as lesbian and 0.6% as transgender.

One of the main reasons LGBT identification has been increasing over time is that younger generations are far more likely to consider themselves to be something other than heterosexual. This includes about one in six adult members of Generation Z (those aged 18 to 23 in 2020).

LGBT identification is lower in each older generation, including 2% or less of Americans born before 1965 (aged 56 and older in 2020).

The vast majority of Generation Z adults who identify as LGBT — 72% — say they are bisexual. Thus, 11.5% of all Gen Z adults in the U.S. say they are bisexual, with about 2% each identifying as gay, lesbian or transgender.

About half of millennials (those aged 24 to 39 in 2020) who identify as LGBT say they are bisexual. In older age groups, expressed bisexual preference is not significantly more common than expressed gay or lesbian preference.

as a millennial,
it’s good to see gen z fully accepting who they are.
for many of us,
we didn’t have as much privilege and awareness that gen z does.
this chart does say more vixens are likely to identify than males,
but i see so many younger bi and gay males on social media fully not gaf.

The best part is many of them are black.

maybe because they have millennial parents?
there is also this:

whatever the case may be,
I’ll allow it.

lowkey: i wonder what going to high school as gen z is like?
especially during this social media age?
i kinda feel like gen z knows more about drugs and sex than millennials ever did.

  1. i do think that a whole lot of people are naturally somewhere on the bisexual spectrum but social norms force folks to only explore and claim their heteronormative desires. Gen Z is generally more open minded so not surprised about the graph pointing this out. I do, however, think that the actual number is way higher in reality

  2. This is study is bullshit. There is still stimna in many communities in this country (and across the world) many people have good reason to hide their lgbt status. This graph is cute but not a true representative of the real world.

  3. Obviously. That “LGBT” is a small part of the population is absolute ignorance. Just because people don’t outwardly claim something doesn’t mean they aren’t it. And quite frankly research shows based on men typically being the hunters, the gay person was there to help the women take care of the young whether she wasn’t into men or he wasn’t into women. They’d dress and take on the characteristics of the “gender” they weren’t attracted to. Unfortunately in the Middle East, if you’re gay, you’re forced to undergo transition and gay and trans aren’t the same thing. My point is there is a role for each letter of the alphabet community and it’s funny how these coons talk about “overpopulation, Black community has too many babies”, yet these same babies that die, or end up in prison are draining the world’s resources. How is it poor Black people are eating up everything? Make it make sense.

The last generation couldn’t talk about being anything but straight out loud, the generation before that acted like it didn’t exist. I am glad things are changing. Too many kids are killing themselves for idiots who say it’s a “gay agenda”. No, it’s always been here and you’re realizing how it’s not something the white man created.

  4. You also have to take into account that Gen Z is incredibly young and judging by this graph are fresh out of high school and in college. People change in life, so I don’t think it’s accurate to compare 19 year olds to 60 year olds.

Would be more interesting to compare each generation at the time of them being young adults.
