angela bassett: our black legend that has fully bloomed

i am not a black woman.
i cannot speak for the issues that black women face.
i do know that when i first came to this country,
and i was bullied horrifically by the straight black boys,
it was black girls who came to my rescue.
they protected and made me feel safe.
as i grew up with them,
i understand that we both share many of the same issues.
some of our straight black “kangs” need to get their shit together.
they are driving us crazy with their shenanigans.

i’m not having the greatest day today tbh.
i was looking for something to change that.
i watched this speech by regina king at the 14th annual governors ball.
it was to honor our legendary queen and national treasure,
angela bassett:

i was so moved.
her voice was so comforting.
angela’s speech tho…

Sidebar: why is her name spelled wrong on the holding slide??????
“Bassett” not “Basset”.

I need their email to get that fixed ASAP!!!

it brought me to tears.
i needed that cry tbh.
regina’s speech was powerful but angela shook the earth for me.
even though i’m not a black woman,
i felt every word and inflection.
i was touched and inspired to go forth and continue being great.
everyone has a lane and within your lane,
that is how you create your success.
its not copying what others are doing.
it’s doing what makes you great and building on that.
i hear you angela!

One thing I love about Angela is that she has done so many roles,
from big to small budgets,
and has made them all her own.

Every character she plays is always different.

this is why she is so powerful.
she takes what is given and makes magic with it.
there is nothing more to be fonted.

“The best is yet to come.”

lowkey: it’s so good to see regina.
always sending her love and light.
