everyone can agree that the janet hubert,
the original “aunt viv” on the “fresh prince of belair”,
was the best one.
that light skinned-ed animal who replaced her was a snoozer.
well according to forests,
janet didn’t get along with will smith and he allegedly had her fired.
key word: allegedly.
when jada made her message about boycotting the oscars,
i had a feeling janet was going to respond.
well that she did.
this is what she had to say via facebook…
and then left this under jada’s facebook video:

yikes.
…and this is all i could think after that double dragging:
janet isn’t the only animal who had something to say.
transgender actress,
alexis arquette,
also left a little something on her facebook about the smiths:
“outing is healthy“?
if she don’t get the fuck outta here.
i will say janet made valid points in her rant.
alexis is spreading rumors.
she lost by default.
jada has everyone talking over her stance on the oscars.
that’s a good thing…
right?
lowkey: jada just wrote something on her twitter:
x read what cheryl boone had to say
hmm.

I stopped caring about the Oscars after it took 67 years for the Academy to finally acknowledge a performance by an African American actress (Halle Berry) and Denzel won his in 2002. I woke up and discovered the truth. They have always been an elitist/racist/sexist organization for damn near 100 years now! They only nominate a particular kind of movie released in the last 3 months of the year when most folks, black or white, couldn’t care less. Not to mention the comedic films that get overlooked by them b/c they’re not deemed serious or “Oscar worthy.” Wake up people! If you’re expecting the Oscars to reflect modern culture or diversity from a committee that represents 94 percent of white men w/ a median of 60 plus you are sadly misguided. I find the entire #OscarsSoWhite topic insulting compared to real life issues going on in our community like the situation happening in Flint, Michigan, for example. The whole Oscars “blackout” conversation is a distraction to keep us sleep on the REAL issues going on.
^And look at the roles they won the award for…a crackhead and a thuggish cop. The epitome of what they believe blacks to be. Angela Bassett couldn’t win for her portrayal of Tina Turner, and Denzel couldn’t be nominated for his portrayal of a hard working father fighting against insurance companies who refused to help his sick child. Nah they needed to award us for low life roles. That’s why I don’t fuck with awards shows.
Don’t forget Eve’s Bayou, Rosewood, Menace Ii Society, Once Upon A Time, Fruitvale Station, Denzel in Hurricane, Malcom X, Morgan Freeman in Shawshank, it goes on and on.
I agree with the poster that mentioned this isn’t important. Does it matter what these already”rich” people bicker about.
There is so much going on in the U.S. besides this mess. Though I do agree with Jada on some points, what’s exactly the entire point of this?
In my opinion its nothing to get overworked about. Hollywood is filled with self absorbed people both black & white.
Janet does come off as bitter to me but she has valid points as well.
Not to sound like a historic broken record but should people even be boycotting together, something as trivial & superficial as the Oscars?
#PETTYJANET is still bitter at Will… She could have made her point with out mentioning WILL which any chance she gets to try to THROW him under a bus because her star faded when she got the boot. As I told a friend earlier WILL SMITH name is the #1 on the call sheet which means he’s the star of the show. I’m pretty sure she was in the top 6 on the call sheet. With Benny being his manager at the time I’m sure he show how she was acting towards WILL and made sure her contract was not RENEWED.
I’m glad that Jada brought this to light. We think it every year. Janet needs to give it a rest. She already had a “Miss Thing” then she one upped herself with “Girlfriend”. She has a point though. We aren’t worried about the Oscars. We do have real issues. But it seems like when we do win, it’s a joke. Like, just give it to one of them niggers and shut em up. Except for Jaime Foxx. Juicy J has an Oscar for crying out loud.
Donald Trump might very well become the President of the United States.
Blacks that are not actors should not give a damn about some award to pacify some rich black actors ego. They got paid millions for their role. That would be reward enough for me.
With all the issues going on with the black community this shouldn’t even be on our radar. They’re rich and out of touch with real life problems like finding a job or debt.
Aunt Viv just showed you how to Drag A B…. 101. Damn. I been waiting for you to post this J, I knew you would. IMO she did not come off as bitter at all, maybe a little salty and I am going to give her that. No one blames Will Smith, I love me some Will Smith but he ruin her career and that was Black on Black crime, so while we are going in on Whitey lol, know that someone who looks like you can do just as much damage as the enemy. I been on the receiving end at the workplace on Black on Black crime and I still feel some kind of way 10 years later and I will drag the dirtbags who tried to ruin my name the same way. Even though I agree with Jada stance, Aunt Viv made some good points and put things in a different perspective. She has not been the only one who has been at the receiving end of the Smith’s wrath in Hollywood. You really cant have it both ways, the Smith’s are far from innocent. This will all blow over after the Oscar’s and it will be something new to talk about. Such is life in a social media world.
I have to admit Viv had a point. Would this boycott came to friction if Will was nominated? I believe not. Hollywood is filled with self-absorbed people who are only for themselves, and they only care when they are affected.
And Alexis needs to shut up.
Janet is coming off very bitter. It’s been almost 23 years and she is still upset. instead of boycotting the awards show every A-list black actor needs to attend. Make their voices heard at the ceremony. What is boycotting going to do?? Boycotting will not take money out of the Academy’s pocket. The academy will give the seats of those boycotting to a white actor and keep the show moving. Show up in numbers, look gorgeous and when they shove a mic in ur face to ask “who are you wearing” state your purpose.
She made a lot of good points…I don’t think she’s bitter at all. On the other hand black people are the only race that beg for the white mans approval smh.
I disagree. Other races (especially the demographics that live in the U.S) view themselves to be subject to white people as well. This is not JUST a black thing. Outside of the U.S. this view varies from region to region depending on colonial influence etc. Black people are not the only ones with this problem, and tbh I’m not sure if the saying that is recently spreading: “Begging for approval” is even accurate. We need our efforts, talent, and history to be acknowledged and recognized, so it shouldn’t be considered “begging”.It’s just that it’s not going to happen from white people, or the white “system”.
I don’t know. I kinda agree with sc8709 because if you really pay attention you see only black people making a big deal about the Oscars while Latinxs and Asians are quiet about it. I agree with you that I don’t think it so much of begging, but more like wanting to be part of.
But what makes it look like it’s begging is the fact that you got B.E.T., NAACP and Centric Award shows that acknowledge and recognized all of the great talents of black people, but the problem is not a lot of African Americans tune in to watch the black award shows nor get the hypes as the Oscars get, plus very few African American celebs show up at their own black award shows just because it not like the Oscars o the Emmy award shows so in a way it does look like black people are seeking white approvals and want white acknowledgment.
@ Lindo,That’s true, I see what you’re saying, but I think the big distinction here is that the other races have their platforms outside of the U.S. They don’t need recognition from white people because #1) they know better (as in, they know that it’s not going to happen) and #2) They are being recognized by platforms that they respect and respect them. A big reason why they don’t need recognition also is because a lot of their history isn’t tied to America the way Black people are. Their history is foreign to America, so why would they need to be recognized IN America? lol. These award shows are for Americans. Black people have significant history in the U.S, so there is some legitimacy to the claims of needing representation, because they DO represent America (now), not a foreign market. Latinos do too, but again, Latinos have their own platforms as well that represent their history from their perspective, not a white person’s perspective, which is what’s happening in the U.S to American Black people. It’s more of an American thing than a race thing.
Other races do submit to the European standards of beauty rhetoric which suggests that their races are inferior to white people. (bleaching skin indian/asian/african, widening eye surgeries in asian countries, perming, asian/african etc) This is all for white “approval” in a subconscious kind of way. It’s everywhere!
I saw her Unsung episode. I have to say that given how immature Will was at the time, she had a point. She may have thought that she could get everyone to band together and get a raise….but it backfired on her, and I remember reading that Benny Medina was a big factor behind that. He told Will not to risk it, and Janet was pretty much out there by herself because the others backed out as well. I was disappointed that she was replaced, because as Mikey said, she had the perfect balance of “classiness with a splash of real”.
Given the number of years gone by, it does come across as being bitter, and her tone in the video doesn’t help either.
Wow it’s like a can of worms got opened in all of this. Janet dos make some great points but I feel like because of her bad past with Will, how she was replaced on the fresh prince , and unsung episode (or what special that was on tv1 years ago) anything she has to say will just be seen as jealousy and Pettiness.
I will be interested to see if any big name black talent throws some commentary into this discussion.
P.S. Yes Janet was the best aunt Viv, classy with a splash of real. I can remember countless times she nearly stole the show.
Nope, not seeing it, she just seems bitter and petty to me. This vixen out here telling people to not support a meaningful boycott because she THINKS Jada wasn’t being real. She’s an example of why stuff does not change.
Then she really out here acting like that was Will Smith’s best movie because it said so in an advertisement. I completely ignored the trans-vixen trying to ride the fame train đ
Agreed.
I have seen a lot of our own people going out their way to attack Jada and that is the main reason why it is hard to get change in our community or the respect we deserve. Martin Luther King had to endure this as well from some of his own people. I will have to say though that Aunt Viv did touch on some points on those other issues that the Smith have not addressed affecting the black community, but also on the other hand – What has Aunt Viv done for the black community?
Alexis is just repeating Internet gossip.I’ve heard all those rumors years ago about Will and Benny Medina.Alexis has no receipts. As for Janet she hates Will so she is dragging him into this.
Agreed.
Janet needs to get over it and it has been over twenty years and the only person to blame for losing her job on the Fresh Prince is herself for being greedy and not having someone negotiate for her properly. Also, Alexis mentally unstable butt better be careful before she get served with a defamation lawsuit and be sleeping in a box on the Pacific coast highway.
