i like miguel.
i like frank ocean.
well miguel thinks he makes better music than frank ocean.
this is what he told the uk sunday times via rap-up…
In a conversation with the U.K.’s Sunday Times, he spoke out about comparisons to his peers including Frank Ocean, who he ran into at a London hotel bar during the interview.
“We’re, er, cordial. I wouldn’t say we were friends,” says Miguel, who lost the Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album to Ocean’s Channel ORANGE in February 2013. While the rest of the crowd at Staples Center stood for Ocean, Miguel remained seated.
He admits that when it comes to his art, he’s “super-competitive.” “To be completely honest—and no disrespect to anyone—I genuinely believe that I make better music, all the way around,” declares Miguel, whose third album Wildheart dropped last month.
he also mentioned the weeknd:
When asked about other R&B singers like Ocean and The Weeknd, Miguel suggests that he will outlast them. “It’s interesting,” he explains, “but we’ll see who’s in it for the long haul. It’s like a marathon, you know.”
So does he envy Ocean’s status as a troubled soul? “That’s Frank. Frank is the tortured. That’s his thing. That’s not who I am. I may not be dark—as dark—and I may not be as poetic, but I’m living my real shit.”

i meannnnnnnnn….
did miguel have to come off “so nasty and so rude” tho?
there is a fine line between “confidence” and “this pineapple here”.
if you believe your music is good,
then fine,
but you let the work speak for itself.
there is enough room at the table to eat.
this is where people bury themselves.
being ultra competitive that you start coming off bitter.
if we really want to be shady:
Don’t the “ratch-n-blues” coalition sell more than him?
lowkey: speaking of frank,
where is he?

Interesting. You nailed it Jamari, let your work speak for itself. Any artiste that declares him/ herself ” better than” is already a loser. There are 10 million singers that all believe their work is better than. STFU and let your work prove your claim. The audience will certainly let you know. Frankly he read your piece and now trying to make a correction. Sorry sweet boy Migel. You have shown you are nothing but a child carrying grude instead of perfecting your talent. Go back to your momma and grow up. Damn fool.
The Weeknd’s fame has mounted since his feature on the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack. He has now three songs that are/were featured in the top 10 on the Hot 100 all in the space of a matter of months. His new single is currently sitting pretty on #6 while Earned It was at #3. His new album is highly anticipated at this point. He will outlast Miguel. Plus he has talent too so that helps. Been a fan since his mixtape HOB days. I like Miguel’s music too though. I need to catch up on Frank’s music because I haven’t listened to his CO album
I like them both. Both good artist. But I would buy a Frank Ocean album before I purchase a Miguel album. Frank needs to drop a new album. I feel if he did he will again out sale Miguel. Just my thoughts.
I don’t really mess with Miguel’s music, but I like Frank’s. That and Frank Ocean is definitely one of the best songwriters of our generation. He’s wrote music for so many artists in addition to his own. Vocally, Miguel is better but overall I think I’d rather listen to Frank.
Also, I believe Frank said that he didn’t plan to release any more albums (music yes just not a full album) and something about coming out with a book or something but idr it was some time ago.
It’s not bragging if he told no lies…
Frank Ocean has always been overrated.
You can pretty much jam Miguel’s three albums with minimal skipping.
It’s not like he volunteered the comment, he was asked. I respect the fact he didn’t give some politically correct response like most artists.
He is in fact head and shoulders above the likes of Chris Brown, Trey Songz, and Frank Ocean when it comes to quality music.
Hm, that’s true about Miguel’s music, I can just put his music on play and just go about my business. His music is nice.
For him to say his music is “better” than another artist is, kind of stupid to me. It’s like trying to sell that an apple is better than an orange almost. It may or may not be proven right but does it matter? if you like apples and dont like oranges, who gives a fuck right? I’m sure some people would do the same with Frank’s album too.
You’re right though, he was asked, and that’s his opinion. Every artist is going to believe they’re better than their competition too so it easily comes off as bragging lol.
Brown and Songz though, yeah they’re a snore lol.
Chris & Trey aren’t even worthy to be mentioned in this post with their mediocre microwavable generic asses. Mainstream garbage is what comes to mind when I wrap their discography in a nutshell. And I haven’t really listened to Frank’s music but I’ve heard some songs of his and they didn’t do much for me. Miguel does reign superior here IMO
Frank hasn’t released an album since Channel Orange in 2012.He has been featured on songs with Jay Z, Kanye, Beyonce, etc.Hopefully Frank will release his new CD soon.I believe he is still living in London.
Miguel’s CD was released last week.He was on Good Morning America last week.We will see Thursday how it performed in the first week.
This was an unnecessary comment though it is true. Frank is an excellent songwriter but overall his music doesn’t do it for me. Miguel is starting to lose my interest a bit too, I have to take another listen to his new album.
I didn’t even know he had any music come out recently.
i don’t like Frank Ocean. Miguel I fucks with
This is the third interview that Miguel has thrown shade toward Frank.Frank has never responded.I hope Frank doesn’t respond.Miguel sounds bitter.
I give the real tea…… Frank broke up with Miguel, and now Miguel is acting the bitter ex
I think Frank is more original than Miguel. Miguel is a Prince knock off to me just like Chris Brown is like a ghetto Michael Jackson knock off and Trey Songz is a R.Kelly knock off. I like both Miguel and Frank, both make great music but are mediocre singers I just wish singers in this generation were more humble but to each his own. He better humble himself years ago Ciara was running the game and people thought Rihanna was a one hit wonder now look how that turned out so no one knows who will be relevant in ten, or twelve years
I second this. Frank is better period.
I third this.
YUP!
I need to see some Maxwell action before people get preachy about their music. I like Miguel’s music a lot, and I like Frank Ocean a fair deal as well. They both make decently good quality music, but they need to make bigger names for themselves before they act like this. Or how about, just don’t be an asshole right?
Humility will get us all farther than we give it credit for. Miguel, get some.
