idris elba was a workin’ it so hard that it became unhealthy

imagine my surprise when i saw idris elba in cyberpunk 2077.
the biceps they gave him >

mmm.
foxhole,
you know i realized?

Many of us have unhealthy working habits that have become addictions.

it is how many of us are raised either at home or in society.
if we aren’t bustin’ our asses at work/career,
we are not like everyone else and a failure.
i’m glad idris addressed how he formed an addiction to being a workaholic.
it was so bad,
he had to get into therapy

Idris said on Changes With Annie Macmanus podcast: “In my therapy, I’ve been thinking a lot about changing, almost to the point of neuropaths being changed and shifting,” he explained. “And It’s not because I don’t like myself or anything like that, it’s just that I have some unhealthy habits that I’ve just really formed and they, you know, I work in an industry that I’m rewarded for those unhealthy habits.”

“Nothing that’s too extreme is good. Everything needs balance. But I’m rewarded massively to be a workaholic, to someone that can go, ‘Oh, I’m not going see my family for six months.’ I’m in there, grinding and making new family and then leave them. You know, those are pathways that I had to be like, I’ve got to adjust.”

“I’ll open that laptop and be like, ‘I don’t know what to make today,’ and today it will come out like this and one like, and I’m exhilarated by that but I’m also relaxed by it,” he said of his working habits. “I could have worked 10 days on a film, underwater sequences, holding my breath for six minutes, and come back and sit here [in the studio] and [be relaxed], more so than sitting on the sofa watching TV with the family, which is bad, right? And this is the part where I’ve got to sort of normalize, what makes me relaxed. Can’t be all work.”

Remember when diddy was talking about “you sleep when you die“?
I always thought that was unhealthy and stupid.

this is a subject that no one talks or fonts about.
we have been trained to be workaholics.
we are rewarded with money or clout but we end up being burnt out.
so we end up forming unhealthy attachments to drugs,
alcohol,
and even the new crack addiction called “clout chasing“.

“Look at what I did guys!
Look at how hard I work!

Please like it because this has become my personality and I need your approval to make this all feel worth it!”

i find it worse in the entertainment industry.
this forest can be so toxic.
you see the gym attentionistos don’t do much outside of working out.
being a workaholic can become our personalities.

That can be a thankless job when we burn out.

if you are finding you are over working yourself,
it is time to consider a reset and establishing boundaries.
if you are far down the rabbit hole,
like idris,
it might be time to seek a therapist.

lowkey: i’m so glad more people,
especially celebs,
are talking about therapy.
therapy saved my life and helped me learn to chill tf out.

  1. And that is the problem with toxic hustle culture. Celebrities have convinced us that we must always be working in order to be a success. That somehow never sleeping will make you rich. This idea of “no days off”
Got folks killing themselves because they’re not rich at 25. We have to embrace the idea that life is not all about wealth chasing. There has to be a balance. Vacation, enjoy family, touch some grass. At the end of life, no one ever said they wished they worked more.
