another year; another bet awards.
we go in expecting greatness and left wanting a v8.
i ended up catching it late because i dropped cable a while ago.
so i was settled into starting the first season of “the boys”,
but one of my BFF vixens alerted me BET had a free stream on their website.
so like getting dressed and going to a last minute invite,
i was left feeling…
“I should have stayed my ass home and kept on watching TV tbh”.
one thing i noticed:
Are our current crop of female rappers just strippers with microphones?
it was a competition of “who can shake their ass the hardest wins!”.
if this is what the vixens are calling talent nowadays,
then i guess everyone on social media who twerks is a star.
even my ratchet vixen,
glorilla,
got in on the action:
i feel like if you told some of them they couldn’t twerk or act ratchet,
they’d be lost in the sauce.
it’s bad when lauryn hill was in a burlap sack but gave us what we needed:
don’t get me wrong,
i like many of them but they are all one trick ponies atm.
yawn?
the usher tribute was interesting.
no males available to sing his hits?
i saw tyrese in the audience.he ain’t got nothing to do.
or…
Did Usher only want vixens to avoid a male outshining him?
cause childish gambino sure didn’t.
only he knows tho.
i thought my stream broke when they muted him during his speech.
here’s what we missed:
Usher speaking at the #BETAWARDS they bleeped out a lot of it on TV but he was really spitting some real shxt.! pic.twitter.com/KEEwxtmqXH

thank God for cellphones.
without them,
this muted moment would’ve become loud rumors with endless variations.
“He mentioned Diddy!
That’s why they muted him!”
“He revealed government secrets and they had to shut him up!”
“My friend Talisha cousin sister,
Mo’Lesha,
was in the audience and said he came out as bi!”
in the end,
i can’t tell if the bet awards are just bad…
….or if our new talent is.
shrug.
here’s to next year!
lowkey: i really want to sit front row at the bet awards.
i hope that happens next year because maybe it’ll be better in person.
lowkey 2: i nominate myself as tribute to ride vic mensa:
Vic is really serving face! 😂 @VicMensa pic.twitter.com/1DQnOSokK5

I actually LOVED the Usher tribute…including Gambino and Marsha. The only one I would have swapped out was Latto. That tribute, Shaboozy, and Tiffany Adell were the highlights for me.
BEEN TIRED of the female rapper schtick, but as long as men like to see “strippers with microphones” and turn a blind eye to Rapsody (who at least is TRYING to focus on lyricism) this is what we’ll have. Only Doja seems to have the creative game somewhat on lock…
I stopped watching the EBT Awards ages ago. Too damn much ratchedness plus I’m clearly not their target audience. I don’t even waste my time with that foolishness.
The Soul Train Music Awards are getting close to that ratchetness since EBT controls them now. More and more, I’m not recognizing it.
