i’ve been binge watching this show called “the comeback”.
irony.
i just literally finished watched the latest episode of the second season.
the season finale is actually this sunday at 9pm on hbo.
one of the older snow bunnies at work was raving about this show a week ago.
i’m always down for some good tv so i said “why not?”.
the show revolves around friends alum phoebe aka lisa kudrow character,
valerie cherish,
but it’s the plot i found to be rather interesting as well…

The Comeback: Valerie Cherish is a D list actress who was in A lister back in the early 90s. Now, she has become unemployed, married, and has a much harder time getting recognized in the Hollywood scene. Valerie is now embarking on making a comeback with a camera crew documenting her trials and triumphs of her journey on doing so.

the show premiered in 2005,
but it was also cancelled within that same year.
critics said it was too “ahead of its time”.
well with the overkill of reality shows,
many featuring washed up d listers trying to make a comeback,
the makers of “the comeback” definitely foretold the future.
hbo decided to bring the show back for a second season this year.
10 years later.

first of all,
i love lisa kudrow.
she was one of my favorites on “friends”.
yes.
i’m black and loved “friends” so fuck you for any judgment.
she has this brilliant way of comedic acting.
that and she does the perfect awkward snow bunny.
what i did like about this show is that it felt real and current.
it also makes you feel sort of uncomfortable and embarrassed for valerie.
its acted so well that it feels like i’m watching real people in a real situation.
i am soooooooooooo hooked on this show it’s ridiculous.
the second season shows just how insecure valerie has become due to fame.
the first season showed her trying her best to get back to being #1,
but now that she is starting to achieve that in the second season,
it shows her dealing with her personal relationships falling apart.
this season is definitely a little bit more darker.
i appreciate that.

they say that in the future,
or “the now”,
everyone will have the opportunity to get their 15 minutes of fame.
hell we can use our phones to record our own reality shows.
with “youtube” and “vimeo” being our personal studios.
we skip “lets talk budget” and go right to “now playing free of charge”.
these outlets take us into “the perfect life” of someone else,
while not showing what is really happening behind the scenes.
“the comeback” achieves this brilliantly.
it shows us that fame is not what its cracked up to be.
the life of a star isn’t all smoozing and buying random shit.
i often wonder what is the actual price of paying for fame?
what do we gain?
and what do we end up losing?
 friends?
family?
ourselves?
are people really being genuine?
or are they secretly trying to destroy us once we reach that level of success?
since we all wants to be “seen” these days,
and its possible to turn a “nobody” into a “bigger nobody”,
i had to wonder…

Once we get it,
is it really all worth it?
