a few months ago,
i was really into aretha franklin‘s music real heavy.
she has a huge music library,
but i started from the beginning.
whenever i’m down,
i listen to this album almost immediately:
“how i got over” is my favorite.
well we lost another black legend today via tmz…
Aretha Franklin, known for having one of the greatest voices in music history, and for hits like “Respect,” and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” … died Thursday after a long battle with cancer.
Aretha passed away in her Detroit home where she was under hospice care. She’d been in failing health for many months and she was down to 86 pounds. One source told us he was informed more than a week ago that Aretha could go at any time.
She was surrounded by friends and family when she passed.
ya know,
i’m not really sad unlike the other black legends we lost.
michael.
whitney.
prince.
she had been battling cancer for years and it was definitely time.
i’m at peace that she isn’t suffering any longer.
she will always be remembered as our “queen of soul” (and shade).
may she rest in eternal peace.
she was 76.
lowkey: i hope they do her legacy justice at her tributes.
i urge the foxhole to check out her discography if they haven’t yet.

Forever the Queen and the blueprint for any diva. Her life is the manual. To Be Young Gifted & Black is my album. We all know the gift that was her voice. I always loved her call and response with her background singers. Her arrangements were GENIUS!! The greatest unsung female musician. A national treasure.
I’m heartbroken mainly because she was my mother’s favorite singer and I can’t remember a time when my mother wasn’t playing her music. Her music was the soundtrack of my life. Also because they both died from cancer.I hate cancer.
It would be amazing if in Heaven there was a choir with Aretha,Michael,Whitney,Luther and all the other great singers who are no longer with us
Rest in Paradise Queen👑
^i agree.
she was one of my mother’s favorites as well.
i grew up hearing her music and other soul artists.
her music takes me to a place.
i’m sorry you lost your mother to cancer as well.
my friends mother is battling pancreatic cancer as aretha was.
it’s very tough.
My heart is so heavy right now, but I know she has been ill for awhile, and it selfish for us to want people around who are suffering and are in pain, I thank God for her musical gift that has helped me get through so much in my life. She is hands down my favorite musical artist ever as some may have picked up on through the years from my posting at the foxhole. I was blessed to see her perform and her music will live on forever. RIP Queen of Soul.
^i knew you would be taking her death hard t!
i know how much of a fan you are.
i was hoping you would comment and i’m grateful you did.
I used to be sad when people passed but it kinda has worn off. The way I’m thinking is that we should be celebrating that those people don’t have to put up with the B.S. of this world any longer
Amen to that!!!
Jammy I honestly felt the same way about Aretha. Tbh I didn’t grow up on her music (I was born in 90s) so I guess that played a part. But death is natural & inevitable and she’s lived a long fulfilled life so I just saw this as a remembrance of her life. I didn’t really view this as a sad moment because she was of age where death is expected. Of course its sad for her family & friends (rightfully so because they had a personal relationship with her) but as a member of the public looking from the outside in, I just see this as a celebration of her life.
