Tidal: Grand Opening; Grand Closing?

NewYork1-e1302549646313who didn’t see this coming?
tidal being all washed up before summer was over.
well looks like jay z maybe getting on his life raft and sailing the fuck out!
this is what the forest is saying about jay z and tidal.
allegedly,
of course…

Bound by NDAs and under threats of waterboarding but unable to contain their excitement, label sources reveal that  Apple Music has added 10m users after just four weeks, and that Robert Kondrk has pushing Cupertino to release information on the service’s rapid growth in streaming, which it has just agreed to do. One of the primary beneficiaries of this encouraging trend is Epic’s Future, this week’s chart-topper and the hottest rapper of the moment, who registered 10m+ streams on Apple Music in the U.S. alone last week, not far below the 14m+ on Spotify.

Tidal has gone eerily quiet of late, apart from statements of support from Nicki Minaj and Madonna, and the word is that Jay Z is looking to get out. This ambitious undertaking has cost him millions of his own money because he never got the expected funding, he still hasn’t paid the licensing fees to the rights holders and no one is likely to throw him a life preserver and bail him out, so he has little choice at this point except to stop the bleeding. What will his exit strategy look like? Interesting to note that it’s not Apple, Sony, UMG or WMG that could be putting the final nail in the Tidal coffin, but Cash Money’s Slim and Baby Williams, with their copyright-infringement suit against the service for its recent exclusive with alienated label artist Lil Wayne.

b55who did NOT see this coming?
the whole press conference and the intro video turned people off.
i know it turned me off.
i also didn’t get the point of it.
hell they looked like they didn’t get the point either.
it seemed very “you can’t sit with us” to me.
it wasn’t innovative as they were trying to make it.

“oooh we can’t watch a nicki minaj/beyonce video unless we sign up.”

well boo-fuckin-hoo.
i still haven’t seen that “feelin’ myself” video and i could care less at this point.
i think i saw every scene in “gifs” so…
yeah.
plus apple music and spotify put up a pretty good fight.
spotify being free.
apple music being armageddon to the competition.

tumblr_n859idg9tk1qh9nffo1_500the beyhive wasn’t strong enough to keep this a float.
better luck next time jay.

  1. Tidal stands for putting the control back into the hands of the artists whom make the music in the first place. They never set out to “squash” the competition, however, the competition spent large sums of money on smear campaigns. Apple Music costs the same as a Tidal subscription and at the end of the day, with record labels going to court and all, I doubt that Spotify will be free for too much longer.

    1. Thank you! This is the point that I wast trying to get across but I guess I didn’t word it right. Not to mention that while ppl only think of the artist or label making money, they are not thinking about the other ppl who contributed to making that song or album (once again, songwriters, engineers, producers, etc) who aren’t getting paid for the tours/movies/endorsements that the most popular artists are making their real money. Not to mention this is still a business with the goal to make money. So while it will benefit ppl like Jay-z the point I’m trying to make is that other ppl who don’t have money like that will be reaping the benefits of their work as well.

  2. When tidal first started I was like you guys like what’s the point? But after talking to somebody who knows a good deal about these music apps and industry I found out that most artists aren’t making that much from apps like spotify, if any at all. So don’t even mention the songwriters, producers and engineers making any money.Tidal was supposed to be different, owned by the artists and allowing the wealth to be distributed to everyone who contributed to the songs being streamed, not to mention artists that aren’t that well known. So while the idea behind tidal was noble and supposed to be profitable for more than just the people that we all see, I think that the reality of the competition was too much unless they completely pulled everything off of any other music app.

    1. Okay, that’s great for the artists, but what about the customers? Why does that affect us? In my opinion, I’m not THAT concerned about paying money to people who live in luxurious houses etc, so if they don’t get much money from it, Im not worried about it. they’re still getting money from Spotify, and thats not their only means of making money. I’m all for supporting my favourite artists but when i’m struggling to make ends meet, I’m not putting their needs ahead of my own when they’rel iving comfortably even with the little money spotify is giving them.

Even with that aside, What incentive does anyone have to purchase Tidal? There is nothing for the customers that they can’t get form Spotify or Apple.

They failed on that regard I think. If it does what Spotify does and supports artists too, I’m all for it and that would be very innovative, but thats not how it is lol

      1. Yes preach! These artists like Jay Z wants to cry and say “Artists are struggling because we can’t afford to buy a 4th o 5th mansion” while real people are worrying how they’re going to pay rent let alone tidal that unnecessary expensive shit.

  3. Jay i agree if a white man did it would have been innovative.! jay and crew tried it but the priccec options were too much for me ! i didnt really see the point unless each artist was doing super exclusive stuff that warranted the fee. but i really love Apple music the music that are displayed on the radio station Beats1 etc is really good!

  4. I have a feeling if a white man was the face of tidal there wouldn’t be so much criticism.

  5. Yeah, I agree with every point above , I didn’t see the point. I think Jay thought his star was so big it could do the impossible. When they first had that into conference it just seems like the artists that were there did it as a favorite Jay or Bey but even they didn’t seem to sure of what the big difference was.

I have loved Apple music from the very first day, the variety of playlist and music are outstanding. If I’m not mistaken Apple music is even coming to android devices soon so no one is left out. I think this I case of biting off more than you can chew, but I give him props for sticking to it this long.

    1. ^i agree mikey.
      tidal has no point.
it was just “come sit at the cool table”.
the other services offer more incentives and better deals.
