The Makings of a Man

manniquenpiecessomeone who has a lot of hoes?
someone who can get new pussy/ass/dick?

someone who has their shit together?
someone who is all bawdy,
but no emotions?
what is a man?
really?
so i always hear this phrase

“you’re not acting like a man”

…when you show some kind of emotion.
so why did men even get emotions then?
or is it better to just hide them from the world?
i’m starting to think that’s the only way to be “a man”.
as i was told just now:

“you gotta let things roll off your back”

somethings i let go,
but someone close to me violated and i’m upset about it.
i have every right.
so before it does roll off my back,
i can’t feel “anything”?
i can’t get depressed?
i just have to say:

“well fuck it,
let me move on…”

i guess i’m not a man then.
funny enough,
when that same person is upset with me,
or we have a fight,
they admit that i put them in their feelings.
my words have:
tumblr_luvmn8uiqM1qjj2ado1_250hmm.

i guess it’s just not okay for me?

lowkey: i’ll admit i’m a little out of it this weekend.
a lot has happened this week.
the energy was off.

fighting with animals who pose to know better.
the job fuckery was at an all time high.

i’m exhausted and emotionally worn out.
i need next week to be more inspiring.

  1. You don’t need someone approval of what makes you a man. You can feel whatever you want and if they don’t like it well that on them, not you.

  2. OMG. I have heard those statements all of my life. Who set the the standards of what or who a “MAN”n is supposed to be? These comments and statements has damaged our community ( Black and gay). These comments has damaged my self esteem for years. Even when I meet black gay men today, they measure what as “MAN” is by these comments and if you don’t fall under the stereotype, you are looked at as less than. The interesting thing is that the black gay men who are continuing to carry out these statements, don’t even measure up to these statements themselves. Everyone has their own definition of what a man is, I dunno how these statements got started but we don’t need to continue to carry them to the next generation and so on and so on. This is definitely a topic that needs to be discussed on a deeper level.

  3. Ooo another topic I could go on for HOURS about but I will keep this one short and sweet because my head is KILLING me!

Anyone who thinks a man is defined by these “pseudo-masculine” stereotypes have NO idea of what true masculinity is. You don’t want to be constantly hysterical and preaching “masculinity” either, but leave room for being human. Emotions=human, not feminine or masculine, how you use them defines your character and discipline, again, not femininity or masculinity.

There is much more to being a “man” than just machismo “act tough, but I’m not really tough, BUT AS LONG AS I’M ACTING TOUGH” rhetoric. they don’t know what they’re talking about, although, letting things slide off your back is a good skill to learn, unrelated to masculinity, but as a life skill. My current challenge as well. Okay, that wasn’t as short as I was expecting LOL!

  4. Let me leave you with one of my favorite quotes

“Never apologize for being sensitive or emotional.
Let this be a sign that you’ve got a big heart and aren’t afraid to let others see it.
Showing your emotions is a sign of strength.”

    Brigitte Nicole

Idgaf how society says one should act as I’ve have said before do you. Those people who bring this up as an strike against you only are doing to get to you.
