The Cub, The Alligator, and The Story We’re Being Fed

tumblr_m9hrceNBCy1rrmkbjo1_500the alligator.
one of the most dangerous creatures in the forest.
once it takes a bite out of you,
you have about no seconds to get loose.
alligators are also known to give it’s victims “the death roll”.
the alligator spins its body around rapidly while underwater.
that is what actually kills you.
that should have been the fate of the two year old cub last night.
the one who was snagged by an alligator at the disney resort.
well cnn has the outcome of what happened and well…

The 2-year-old boy who witnesses said was pulled by an alligator into a lagoon near a Walt Disney World hotel has been found dead by the Orange County dive team, Sheriff Jerry Demings said at a Wednesday news conference.

The body of the boy, Lane Graves, was found intact about 1:45 p.m., not far from where the boy was grabbed Tuesday night, Demings said. His body had only a few puncture wounds, according to a source familiar with the investigation.

He likely drowned, Demings said.

“Of course, the autopsy has to confirm that, but there is likely no question in my mind that the child was drowned by the alligator,” Demings said.

Demings said the body was found in 6 feet of murky water perhaps 10 to 15 yards from where the boy was attacked. The boy’s parents, who are from Elkhorn, Nebraska, were identified as Matt and Melissa Graves.

“The Graves family appreciates the support they have received and have asked for privacy as they grieve the loss of their son,” the sheriff’s department said on its Twitter page.

Matt Graves is the chief data officer at Omaha Infogroup, a company that provides technology solutions, CNN affiliate KETV reported.

Demings said the Graves were distraught yet relieved that this was not a protracted search.

He said he brought a priest with him when breaking the news to the parents, who are Catholic.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Executive Director Nick Wiley said the alligator may have already been caught, but that has not yet been confirmed.

“We’re going to make certain that we have the alligator that was involved, and that we remove it from the lake,” he said.

Forensics teams will try to determine whether one of the alligators already taken from the lake is the one that dragged off the boy. If not, the search for alligators in the lake will continue.

The boy’s family was at a movie night outdoors at the Grand Floridian resort when around 9 p.m. the boy waded into about a foot of water in a lagoon, authorities have said. Witnesses, including the boy’s horrified parents, tried to save him. His father jumped in and tried to pry the gator’s mouth open. His mother jumped in, too.

But it was too late. The child was dragged underwater in the Seven Seas Lagoon, witnesses told authorities. The lagoon is connected to a series of canals that feed into large bodies of water, Wiley said earlier.

The Reedy Creek emergency services call center first received a report about the attack at 9:16 p.m.

A search began for the boy immediately, with boats from Disney searching along with law enforcement.

By midmorning Wednesday, Disney had closed all beaches in its resort area “out of an abundance of caution” after the attack, a Disney representative said.

Wiley said the child was on the edge of the lagoon when the alligator attacked, according to the boy’s family. He cautioned that the investigation is still in an early stage and officials need to interview at least two other families who may have witnessed the attack.

Demings specifically said the child was “wading … along the lake’s edge at the time that the alligator attacked.”

um…
i hate to sound heartless,
but i’m not fully sold on this story.
you know i got some questions:

why the hell were they even out there after a certain hour?
– why was their two year old splashing in the water that late?
– there were signs saying “no swimming”.
could they not read?
– why were they so far in the dark away from everyone?

– they also have a four year old cub.
where was she?
– they tried to both wrestle an alligator?
in the dark?
wouldn’t the alligator have attacked them too?
– he allegedly only had a few cuts on his hand?
– the cub’s body was still intact after being in an alligator’s mouth?
how is this even possible?
– why was the cub found close to the place it was allegedly snatched?
– was the alligator a vegan?
that cub realistically should have been eaten.

my foxy senses is telling me there is more to this story.
i’ll keep my nose in the story for more details.
lowkey: i saw this video of an alligator with a dog…

that cub wouldn’t be so close to where all it all happened.

…Am I the only one thinking this?

  1. *longtime reader, first-time commenting* First off I love your blog. Secondly, I don’t mean to be offensive, but this weekend I have read so many stories questioning the legitimacy of the mourners and if there are hired actors after the Orlando Club Shooting and all sorts of non-sense and then many posts on social media criticizing and questioning the parents of this young child who is a victim of a freak incident that I wouldn’t want to imagine. To me it just seems like people have lost the ability to just be human and feel. People are so heartless questioning motives and circumstances surrounding situations that can only be described as nightmares. I should probably mention that I live here in Orlando. Some times its best to just pull back and live in the moment. Cry with the families. Be grateful it’s not your burden to bear. Or have we become just that jaded a people that we rush to judgement and critique rather than to love. And empathy?

    1. I think SOME people are in denial that these awful events are happening so they think everything is fake or turn everything into a conspiracy. If they believe the Orlando Shooting was fake and the victims were not innocent people but actors. Then they don’t have to accept the fact that that could have been them or their loved ones.If they think these loving parents murdered their child than they don’t have to deal with the reality that their son,Godson, nephey, etc could have been killed by an alligator at Disney.
I dealt with this when Prince died and when the autopsy results came out.I debated with all these people on Black blogs and their conspiracy theories.Rather than accept the possibility that Prince started using pain killers for chronic pain and became addicted as millions of Americans do.Many people would rather believe he was murdered by record company for his catalog.Despite the fact that he regained control of his catalog years ago so the premise doesn’t even make sense.Or of course the Infamous Illuminati killed him😕

      1. I think you’re absolutely right. Somehow we’ve turned off whatever part of our brains that controls common sense and reality. People die every single day, I guess since the cause of death is so jarring we can’t process and accept it. BTW I had noticed the same pattern after Prince’s death.

    2. When you start to learn how corrupt the world is and with so many deaths, you can’t help but question everything.

    3. After I got more information about these two cases (the gorilla and the alligator) I realized I was “gut-reacting” and my view was a bit harsh in both cases. Now that I have more context on both, I see it from a different perspective. What happened in both was awful for all parties involved.

The alligator incident is just tragic, regardless of the signs. No one was expecting an alligator to be there in the first place, and the gorilla incident at the zoo…i still don’t know how i feel about the parenting, but it happens to a lot of parents (good and bad) where they lose their kids for a split second (hell, it’s happened to me!) and this kid decided to go in the gorilla pit. She was tending to 4 little ones so I can see how it can happen. They’re lucky they got that kid out alive, though it’s a real shame that I can’t say the same about the Gorilla.

Life can change in the blink of an eye! We’ve got to stop blinking lol!

  2. hmm… I agree this is a fishy story. Living in Miami, there are many man made lakes and sure there are alligators and pray your car does not end up in there. Alligators tend to chump their prey, like 10yrs ago a young lady named Yovy Suarez Jiménez was running one night and laid her foot near a lake and the next day her remains were scattered and chewed up.

  3. It was weird for me too. How was the child intact? Idk, and the signs about NO SWIMMING? I know the child wasn’t swimming, but…whatever. What’s done is done, I hope this is an eye opener for a lot of people, this world is NO JOKE!

I feel sorry for that little baby though, that’s just horrible.

    1. Alligators are opportunistic hunters, and in this case, if the alligator saw something it could identify as food, but not hungry, it would take the meal, but usually leave it underwater or somewhere they an return to later once the item has decomposed a bit.

I highly doubt this was a result of anything suspicious, and people from Nebraska might not be aware there were alligators there. There was no sign indicating that and the lagoon was on the shore of a beach people were expected to relax on.

Not even negligence is at fault here.

      1. Wow, thank you for the bit of context, that does put it into perspective. Surely the resort would have known about the alligators though, right?

      2. ^okay apollo.
i like what you had to say.
you put a different perspective on it.
so the alligator in the video with the dog was hungry then?

      3. Notice that the gator in the video isn’t eating the dog. It’s taking the dog somewhere to stash it for eating later. The water in the video is clear enough that we can see the dog’s collar. The gator is taking it somewhere more obscure. The lake at the Grand Floridian is dark, three feet from the beach, even in daylight. So the gator could easily have stashed the boy in a favorite nearby spot. While you know that you are in Florida and gators are a possibility, the last thing you feel at Disney is fear. Nature got through the disney net and parents on vacation turned away for a minute. Tragedy ensued. There is no episode of CSI to be gleaned from this.

      4. Not only that but since alligators, or crocodiles cannot chew, they generally rely on other alligators/crocs to help tear their prey apart. Single alligators/crocs will attack their prey, drown it, and as Apollo said…stash it for consumption at a later time. And they can sneak up on you without you knowing they are there, so with it being dark as well…that was a perfect opportunity for that animal to attack. Once they clamp down…it’s a wrap. You’ll be lucky to get out of the grip of that animal, and if you do…you’ll probably lose that limb. So this little boy had no chance.

I heard today that Disney parks had removed alligators from the area before, yet they never put up signs to indicate to people that gators were in the vicinity. Also, people at the hotel were saying that they were being kept in the dark about what was going on. I’ve heard of damage control, but Disney was going all out!

  4. I tend to lean on the cynical side, but I think some of the comments are makin leaps here…as far as I’m concerned, if there are no signs that explicitly say “WARNING: ALLIGATORS DWELL TERMS N THESE HERE WATERS” – or sumn to that effect – then DW is hella responsible for this…now, one could make an argument that the parents should’ve been more vigilant, in general, regarding the welfare of their child (in alligator country nevertheless – they’re from NE; I’ll give em a smidgen of grave naivete)..but even still, I don’t think there’s any mention on exactly how far away from his parents he was AND it was only a foot of water…it was a man made lagoon, so there weren’t any currents to worry about. …basically, a carefree family stroll at night while on vacay….I don’t see negligence here, yet. ..but I’ll be f/u on this for sure…

  5. Jamari, you’re making valid points which lead me to only one real conclusion (though no one wants to say it): they wanted to kill the child and make it seem like it was an accident. If they knew that gators were in the water no one would suspect them of killing the child, let the animal do it for them….

  6. It’s terrible. How do you as parents live with yourselves after something so traumatic? I can’t even imagine. So much tragedy in Florida right now. Something does seem off though. Everybody don’t need kids nowdays cause I can’t with these parents….

  7. Let me get this straight, there was two parents there supervising two children and they let one run off to play in the sketchy water?

I hate to bring the negativity, but I noticed something about social media. People felt some type of way about the single mother watching four children in a zoo, but I’m not seeing too much drama at BOTH parents not watching their child outdoors at an alligator infested lagoon. 😅

    1. ^Seems that in the case of the Cincinnati Zoo incident, they (public) were more concerned about the gorilla being killed than the little boy possible being harmed.

  8. They euthanized 5 alligators and said that they will now be comparing teeth marks to identify which one was the one that attacked. I also don’t want to sound heartless, I truly am saddened by this loss of a precious young life, but I had to wonder why a 2-year old was off away from his parents this late at night. Witnesses say that the alligator came out of the dark, just wondering why he was so far away in the dark. Still a sad situation and my prayers go out to the parents.

      1. There was a witness Bill Wilson from Indiana who watched from his balcony according to Orlando Sentinel. He saw the father fighting the alligator.
        Bad week for Orlando
        Friday the Voice singer killed
        Sunday Mass Shooting
        Tuesday Toddler Attacked by Alligator

      2. My family has stayed at that same resort, and after a long day you sit on the beach and watch fireworks or its movie night by the water. There are no signs that say “ALLIGATORS” My prayers are with the parents. So sad
