A man fatally stabbed another customer outside a Maryland Popeyes restaurant in a fight over the chain’s recently re-released chicken sandwich, police say.

The two men were waiting in line at an Oxon Hill Popeyes on Monday night when one of the men accused the other of cutting in front of him in a line specifically for ordering chicken sandwiches, Prince George’s county police spokeswoman Jennifer Donelan told news outlets.

The fight then spilled outside where one of the men stabbed the other, according to police.

The 28-year-old victim was from the Washington area, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he died less than an hour later.

  1. A lot of y’all are really out of pocket. I won’t even start to address why Jammy would invoke “black lives matter” (a movement dedicated to murders that were/are motivated by racism, not just murder in general) at a time like this. What I do want to address is the narrative that this man was killed over a chicken sandwich. He wasn’t. The alleged motivation was him cutting a really long line, & an ensuing fight escalating out of hand. Yes, the line was for a chicken sandwich, but it’s not like he had a chicken sandwich is his hand, was stabbed and the sandwich was stolen. The fight began because someone felt disrespected. Is it a better reason? No. Is it still trivial? Absolutely. Does distinguishing the difference matter? AB.SO.LUTELY. Reducing it down to the sandwich is irresponsible and has overarching racial implications that don’t need to be present in the story. Fights or arguments over disrespect occur ALL the time, a few of them unfortunately lead to deaths, but the chicken sandwich wasn’t the motivating factor in this young man losing his life.

  2. See, this is exactly why I stopped eating that mess. Folks crazy as hell for a freaking dead piece of meat. Sometimes I just can’t even imagine I live in the same world with people sometimes but I’m here to do my own thing and let them do theirs.

And as someone else said, they don’t do this at Chick-fil-A (though I haven’t eaten there either in a minute) but like really…Taking another human beings life over a sandwich.

    Blacks Lives Matter huh?

Unless you’re LGBTQ or happen to have a Popeye’s Chicken sammich in your hand.

  3. That shit is Krazy!! Getting killed over a chicken sandwich!! Why is it always black folks getting hurt or killed over the dumbest shit! I had one of those sandwiches this past Sunday for the first time, one of the first in line. Although the sandwich was good, I won’t be standing in a long line for another one. I’ll go to Chick-fil-A where the white folks go and I don’t have to worry about arguing with someone about a sandwich, plus the service is better.
