that person next to you might have the “contagion”

…and you know folks love going to work and school sick to pass it around.
cousin hybrid and i saw “contagion” when he came to visit back in 2011.
we left that movie traumatized.
it was about a deadly contagious disease that was killing everyone.
all it took was one person to get infected.

folks with severe OCD probably regretted watching that movie.
well,
it seems like that movie is “now” because…

A Chicago woman has become the second U.S. patient diagnosed with the dangerous new virus from China, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Friday.

The woman, who is in her 60s, came in through O’Hare International Airport from China on Jan. 13 after spending about two weeks in the Wuhan area.

Officials said she arrived to Chicago without showing any signs of illness, but three or four days later she called her doctor to report feeling sick.

Authorities believe the case is travel-related.

The health commissioner said the woman hadn’t had close contact with many people since becoming ill, or taken public transportation or attended large gatherings. The people she did have contact with are now under observation.

She is currently in isolation at an undisclosed hospital — and is reported to be well and in stable condition.

Health officials said there “is no immediate threat to the general public in Chicago.”

Earlier this week, a man in Washington state became the first U.S. patient, also diagnosed after returning from a trip to the outbreak’s epicenter in central China.

The disease, which originated in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, has already left dozens of people dead and more than 800 infected as it spreads throughout Asia and as far as the United States.

Health officials are currently monitoring 63 patients across 22 states.

The virus can cause fever, coughing, wheezing and pneumonia. It is a member of the coronavirus family that’s a close cousin to the deadly SARS and MERS viruses that have caused outbreaks in the past.

  1. That’s the scary part especially in NYC. No one stays home when they’re sick. Coughing and hacking on the subway and won’t even cover their mouth…. I’m staying out of the city and working from home…
