So The Oscars Ratings Learned Last Night?

chris+rock+oscars+promoeven chris rock couldn’t save the oscars.
unless you were living under a rock,
no pun intended,
you know the oscars was on last night.
well with all the recent controversy about it being a “white out”,
brought on by ( x jada pinkett smith ),
we were all told to turn our television’s elsewhere.
i guess the majority listened.
according to the hollywood reporter

Early numbers are in for the 2016 Oscars, and the initial stats have the Chris Rock-hosted telecast down even further from last year’s lows. The telecast ranks as the second-lowest rated on record, with 34.3 million viewers, per Fast National ratings.

Nielsen’s overnight estimates had the 3½-hour ABC event on track for another drop with an average 23.4 rating among households in 56 of the nation’s biggest TV markets. That’s off 6 percent from 2015, making for a seven-year low in overnights.

The least-watched Oscars on record is still the 2008 ceremony hosted by Jon Stewart. That show came in just shy of 32 million viewers.

jada?
the impact?!
i only watched chris rock’s opening monologue.
it was funny at some parts and then borderline cringe worthy.
after he left the stage,
i turned that shit right off for “the walking dead”.
i kept up with my promise of not watching unlike others.tumblr_nt7kp95PlJ1sicctoo1_400lowkey: i hear leo won.

  1. I think it was designed to be tasteless and cring-worthy. Just like the current situation of race in America. It makes people uncomfortable and to broadcast it like this during this A-list event made people uncomfortable in their seats. Effective? I think not.

  2. Goody Goody for them I hope all of the white tv shows, award shows, films and albums flop, crash and burn.

Chris Rock, Whoopi Goldberg & Stacey Dash have now been relegated to the self hating coon corner they are a disgrace. I’m not surprised in the least at the buffonish comments Chris Rock made about a woman (who could have been his foremother) being tortured and murdered. When you hate yourself and no self respect you will do just about anything to appease the ppl you want to be like and in this case (which is the norm for ppl of color) it’s a room full of ppl who classify themselves as white.

SHAME on all those who participated.

  3. Am I the only one who couldn’t fathom the fact that 34 MILLION PEOPLE actually tune in to watch this boring ass shit every year?! Wow. Snoozefest.

  4. I really hope people realize that the Oscars, Emmy’s, Grammy’s, etc. are all rigged. They are awarded by old White men that haven’t even seen all of the nominees and PR agencies. It is NOT based off merit! FACTS. It’s based off whoever has the biggest campaign. Monique tried to tell us.

I don’t understand why minorities care so much about being validated by these award shows. Jennifer Lawrence is a horrible actress yet she gets nominated year after year. The system is broken and deeply slanted in the wrong direction.

    1. The thing about the Oscar that confuses me is the way they nominate movies. Movies that have not been released yet, or just been released get nominated over movies that have been out longer. I think that’s fucked up…and is a PRIME example of the rigged voting by members.

  5. I did not watch it and to be honest, I havent watched the Oscars in years. I never go to the movies anyway and all the movies I like have never got any real recognition but they touched me and at the end of the day, if you can touch someone with your art you have done your job.

I see the Anglo’s are about to lose their collective minds they are so upset about the whole boycott and Chris Rock hosting. They have been all across social media saying some pretty nasty and vile things about Mr. Rock and Black people in general, but of course I dont expect anything less from them. They are the only group of people who get upset when people of color call them out about their bias and then try to turn it around and play the victim. Sadly it just seems that 2016 is not much different than 1916. Donald Trump has renewed the racial fire in so many who are tired of playing like they give a damn about any person of color, he has freed them to be the racist they always wanted to be in the first place. I am over them at this point and will only deal with them to get a paycheck. They can keep their exclusive “Whites Only” club at the Oscars. At this point in the game, just give me a Tyler Perry Madea nomination, some Kool-Aid, Ranch Doritos and the BET Awards and I am good and entertained.

    1. Oh no, is ranch Doritos a “thing” I have to add tot he list of stereotypes? Where do these come from? lol
      Haven’t heard that one!

  6. I’m one of the few people who actually liked and appreciated Chris Rock’s monologue and Stacey Dash’s appearance. Though I only liked Stacey’s appearance because nobody clapped for her and she made herself look like an even bigger fool, why would she even fall for that? Lol.

Chris made people laugh, think, feel uncomfortable and somewhat guilty and I believe that was his point. The real testament will be to see what The Academy does next year…

  7. It’s so funny how Hollywood is learning it’s Diversity lesson. All white God’s of Egypt bombed now the ocars with shitty numbers. I’m loving it.😂😅
Whitewashed generic forms of culture do not bring in more money or ratings.

  8. I heard Chris Rock said something about a grandmother swinging on the tree. If that true then that going too far especially when that dark part of history is not supposed to be a joke to make white people laugh when white people are the reason why lynching existed

    1. ^”Why? Because we had real things to protest at the time, you know? We had real things to protest; you know, we’re too busy being raped and lynched to care about who won best cinematographer.

You know, when your grandmother’s swinging from a tree, it’s really hard to care about best documentary foreign short.

But what happened this year? What happened? People went mad. Spike got mad, — got mad, and Jada went mad, and Will went mad. Everybody went mad, you know?

Jada got mad? Jada says she not coming, protesting. I’m like ain’t she on a TV show?

Jada is going to boycott the Oscars — Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited.

Oh, that’s not an invitation I would turn down.

But I understand, I’m not hating. I understand you mad. Jada’s mad her man Will was not nominated for “Concussion.” I get it, I get it.” – Chris Rock, Oscar ’16
