yeah me neither.
well bobby d has a new documentary coming out on hbo about his father’s life.
the daily mail gives a little detail on what its about…

Robert De Niro has purposefully kept his private life out of the public eye for decades but now he has broken that trend by revealing all in a new documentary about his artist father.

The new HBO documentary that premiered at Sundance Film Festival reveals that the reason why the legendary actor’s father left his mother when the boy was only 3-years-old was because he realized that he was gay.

De Niro, who was named after his father Robert De Niro Sr, narrates much of the film and reads directly from his father’s personal journals wherein he grapples with his sexuality in a less accepting time.

The two-time Academy Award winner said his father, who died in 1993 from prostate cancer, may never have resolved the issues that he had with God as he came to grips with the realization that he was gay.

Robert De Niro Sr. reportedly had an amicable split from his wife, and remained a constant presence in his son’s life as they all continued living in New York City.

‘I did this for him,’ De Niro told the audience at the premiere in Utah on Sunday.

‘I wanted my younger kids- who were born after he died- to know what their grandfather did. I even kept his painting studio intact so they could see it.’

  1. I noticed some people dont mind a white man with a black woman but they don’t really like when a black man with a white woman.

    1. I think it is because of the numbers it is rare to see a White Male/Black Female couple so there is less opportunity to criticise. How many Black Male Celebrities have a White Wife vs Black Female Celeb with White Husband. The ratio is probably 20:1.
After seeing so many famous Black Men with NonBlack women some Black women take it personal and feel rejected, bitter, angry. They feel validated when men like Deniro,George Lucas, etc appreciate their beauty.

      1. Oh okay I wonder why they don’t feel rejected if a guy dates a black woman that’s not them even though it’s a black woman he still rejected other black women for that one black woman lol.

      2. Oh and why don’t women feel rejected by gay men? I never hear women say “you hate your mom cause you don’t date women”. lol

      3. I realize you are joking but there is a difference in a Black man not being attracted to A Black woman vs not being atractive to ANY Black woman.
This is no different than some Black Gay guys who are not attracted to ANY Black Guys.
        Personally I date all races
        Gotta Go

      4. I wasn’t joking, I really wanted to know why more people don’t feel like they was rubbed the wrong way when a white man is with a black woman. Vs black men with non black females. And you gave a good reason but, No matter what race one prefers one can’t just up and deny others races beauty unless they just hating.

      5. Because White men have been banging Black women for centuries ERIS.I’m not talking about slavery either.European men and Arab men used to take Black African women as wives. They took many Black African women as wives, which is why many African groups are just like us over here. They have an admixture. Some more distant than others even though skin color isn’t a good indication of how much non-Black blood a person has in them because a person who is very dark could be less Black than someone who is very light. That’s the main reason why I get pissed when Africans in Africa talk shit about us like they’re pure-blood 100%.

Black men and White women is sorta kinda new.If they keep it up, it’ll be non-existent because there won’t be any Black men left.

Oh and before anybody gets on me about the African thing.I still look at myself as no different from the Africans in Africa.I’m not mixed, I’m just saying. They shouldn’t use those little bits of non-Black blood to disassociate themselves from us because at the end of the day, I consider the non-Black DNA as junk DNA.It’s just random genetics that don’t really matter because the majority of me is Negroid, Black, Sub-Saharan, whatever you want to call it.

Damn, now I sound like I’m a mulatto choosing to be Black.Ugh.That’s why I hate that subject.Africans got us African Americans sounding like tragic mulattos and shit.

  2. According to his biography he had a girlfriend when he was in his sixties. So he may have been bisexual but leaned more to the Gay side.According to the bio he had affairs starting in the 40s with Tennessee Williams,Painter Jackson Pollock,Poet Robert Duncan…Almost all his relationships seem to be with men.

  3. He had a gay dad… Are they sure he wasn’t bi.I know a lot of gay guys have babies with women the natural way but still… I’m just wondering.

  4. what a beautiful tribute. I know it must have been difficult to deal with being gay in that time. I don’t think I could have done it. Its hard as hell now.
