one of my favorite memories of my childhood was watching shows with my little sister.
one show i remember us watching together was keyshia cole’s reality show on bet,
“the way it is”.
it was like one of our many “brother/sister” bonding moments tbh.
it was better than that fuckin’ spice girls shit she would watch on repeat.
we both loved frankie who was keyshia cole’s mother.
even though she was an addict,
and be super emotional like typical cancers,
she had a really good and infectious spirit about her.
she was literally the star of that show.

 

so you know i was saddened when i saw this news this morning…

Keyshia Cole’s biological mother, Frankie Lons, has died, passing away on her birthday after a several-decades-long struggle with addiction … TMZ has learned. The R&B singer’s brother, Sam, tells us … Frankie overdosed at her Oakland home Sunday … the same day she was celebrating her born day, when she apparently took drugs while partying — relapsing on what we’re told was a long, hard-fought journey to sobriety. As of March of last year, Frankie hit a huge benchmark … staying 60 days sober, something her daughter was proud to share with her IG fans and followers. She has yet to comment on her mother’s death. Frankie had just turned 61.

this really made me sad tbh.
i don’t even know frankie,
but i felt like i knew her since i was so invested in the show back when it aired.
i wasn’t keeping up with her life but i was hoping she was doing well.
i did want her to make an appearance on verzuz when keyshia was on there.
i can only imagine how keyshia is feeling today.
they were really close and she tried her best.

but you know what?

Keyshia tried.
Her family tried.

having an addict as a family member is hard.
it is a constant roller coaster that you want to get off,
but you don’t want to leave them alone because you care.
frankie was probably tired and went out having fun.
one thing about frankie is she loved to have fun and be the life of the party.


i just hope that they were all on good terms with her before she left this earth.
sometimes we leave addicts alone because we can’t deal and then it’s too late.
may frankie rest peacefully.

lowkey: it’s crazy how life can turn out.
my sister has a severe mental illness and it’s like dealing with an addict.

  3. This hurt when I heard the news earlier. Damn I was praying that Frankie would beat that addiction. Drug addiction is a beast to overcome. Praying for all who battle with this specific demon. We all have them but some are tougher to defeat than others

  4. RIP ms. Frankie. She was must see t.v. when I was growing up. She definitely was the star of the show. Man down, I hope she’s finally at peace.
