Our President Is Still Black, But Officially Gone

that was obama saying goodbye to his home of 8 years.
such a beautiful shot from pete souza.

so i was a mess today at work.
the office was also high on emotions.
everyone kept busy,
but there was that underlying sadness in the air.
even though i didn’t agree with a lot of the things he did,
or had a lot of questions,
barack and michelle obama got my tears today.
i tried my hardest to contain them,
but this part of the programming is what really floored me…

that “wave” meant it was final.
the walk to the helicopter meant it was over.
this also made me sad:

it’s done.
obama has completed his two terms.
they both handed over their titles with such grace and class.
they taught me to take the high road.
obama will never be forgotten.
i don’t think we will see another “him” in that white house again.
well he joins the rest of us as citizens now.
he will be more private,
but he will be still around.
i love that he will get secret service detail for life.
thank God.
in my head tho,
he may even try to help if she completely hits the fan.
also in my head,
they will all get impeached and he will do it again for a third term.
we have a new president and well…

  1. Deejay and Dean you tried it, this is such a dumb argument. Stop with this biracial this and not black enough that. Barack Obama, is a Black man and identifies himself as one and Republicans definitely treated him like one, lets not forget that.

  2. Dee Jay, if you don’t know what the definition of being black is, then you just impeached your original comment of black versus biracial. Perhaps you are the one that needs to hop on a plane and immerse yourself into different cultures around the world. Maybe then you can define what black is. It’s time to get to work on that research crap you like to tell others to do. No hard feelings though. Let’s just squash this conversation.

    1. RK,

I am assuming that you are referencing the statement in regards to, “Black,” can be defined in many different ways, but I am going to give you a simple explanation about how to define it.” I gave you the definition in a simple form and how someone in an academic setting would define it. I was educating you on the matter and answering your question, but since you don’t want to have a dialogue and seem to be taking this personal, I will agree to end the conversation.

  3. Somebody tell me how much “black” blood do you need coursing through your veins to make you African-American? 90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, 50%, 40%, or maybe 1%?

    1. RK,

Please do some research and educate yourself, you are holding onto the “grandfather clause.” The one drop was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme court in 1967.

      1. Stop it with research crap. Your original comment was that Obama is biracial and not black. Define what black is. Let’s get to the heart of the matter.

    2. RK,

“Black,” can be defined in many different ways, but I am going to give you a simple explanation about how to define it. It can be considered, people who are believed to belong to the same genetic stock. Also, time did a great article on this and Obama is mentioned in it.

      http://healthland.time.com/2010/12/10/whos-white-whos-black-who-knows/

Also, to answer your other question, I come from a family of biracial people and I claim all of my heritage.

  4. Exactly, Dee Jay. Obama is not black. He is mixed, mulatto or biracial. I’m waiting for the first black President.

And since African-Americans are by definition the descendants of Africans enslaved and brought to America (the United States), Obama is not an African American. So I waiting for the first African American President.

    1. And the same to you too. At least he can trace his roots back to exactly in Africa from where his ancestors came. I’m tired of black people trying to be so black but end up being plain wrong. SMH.

    2. African Americans are, by definition, an ethnic group of Americans with total or partial ancestry from any of the Black racial groups of Africa. His father is Kenyan. That makes him an African American.

      1. sc8709,

The one drop rule was ruled unconstitutional in 1967. Obama is biracial and I prefer to not use that other term since it is considered disrespectful.

      2. Dee Jay, since you have made a clear distinction between being biracial and being black, it is up to you to define what is black. And since you like to tell others to do some research, then you should know that there is only one race called human and the human race is comprised of different ethnicities.

      3. I didn’t even mention the one drop rule. I mentioned his fathers kenyan heritage, which LITERALLY makes him an African American. And the one drop rule may be unconstitutional now but society has a different set of rules.

    1. Get off of that crap. A lot of us “black” folks are ethnically mixed. How many of us are 100 percent African? Who put you in charge of the purity test? How many people were referring to him as white? SMH…

      1. RK,

Apparently you are the one with the crap, the “grandfather clause,” is outdated and people here are no longer in slavery. Both parents heritage should be considered and respected. Your way of thinking and mindset is what keeps racism alive and according to you, should we allow the slave masters to dictate what race a person is? Also, the reason many of us are not 100% is due to our ancestors being raped and please do some research on African American history and travel outside of this country as well for educational purposes and to interact with other cultures and learn our history through them.

      2. Dee Jay, I don’t know who you are replying to, but I said none of those things in my response to you. You are the one who stated that Obama was not black. Give me examples of those who are black and black only?

  5. Jamari you could be right because it actually rained during the ceremony and I wish it was hail. Don’t mess with mother nature.
