  1. Why don’t we just change it to American Italian American Asian American Irish American African instead it sounds more equal instead because I’m not from Africa neither or my past generations

I relate to AMerican culture more but I’m still African just diluted so it comes 2nd as opposed to being first

  2. so people want to be seriously identified as “niggas”?
    on check boxes on forms,
we should all just check “nigga” because “african american” is an insult?
is that what i’m getting from this today?

    1. GMAFB I am not ashamed or offended by being called African American or Black. In the fifties people didn’t want to be called Black .Until Black Power “Say it Loud Im Black and Im proud” era

  3. Asia is a continent just like Africa is a continent. At my HS the Asian kids had no problem calling themselves Asian Americans, using that name for their clubs and organizations despite the fact that most of them have never been to Asia.I am proud to be descendents of people from the Mother Land despite the fact I don’t know which country my ancestors were from.

  4. Sometimes I feel I’m better off living on the moon. Suge Knight and TMZ are just a solid… no.

  5. Suge Knight is right. AFRICA is a CONTINENT not a COUNTRY. The only continent that is also considered a country is Australia. To all the people who identify themselves as African-American please let me know what country in Africa YOU are from. 1865 – 400yrs of slavery puts us in 1465, blood since then has been diluted meaning its not TRUE African blood. Valentina from Bad Girls Club is African-American because she has Nigerian blood. My high school math teacher kids are African-American because their father is straight from Ghana. I believe that calling yourself African-American is a slap in the face to the TRUE Africans who left their country for a better life. I have had this conversation with educated black professionals who hold Ph.D’s and agree. I look at it like this: If u go back 3 generations and none grandparents come from a country in Africa then you are a black American. Know your ancestry before you claim that term and apply it to a general meaning. By the way TMZ is a J O K E, not real journalism more of exploitation. Usually people who follow TMZ are also the ones who idolize Beyonce the kardashians and are myopic.

    1. We don’t know which part of Africa we come from because of slavery but our DNA, the majority of it, is African.Forgive me for not wanting to be identified as a boring ass color.I don’t give a fuck what degrees the men hold that agree with you, that doesn’t make them right.Nice job though, taking away the last/only thing we do have left of our heritage, which is the name of the continent our ancestors were taken from.I can look at myself and know that I have African blood. It ain’t like we’re all a bunch of ambiguous looking mutts. You know we’re from Africa.I don’t care how many generations we haven’t been living there, you can’t just strip us of our heritage. The Americas were stolen from the Native American Indians, does that mean there’s a time limit on how long the Natives can still call themselves Natives? No.

I guess Charlize Theron is more of African American than me.Black men with college degrees say so.

      1. Zen Budda, I agree with you and I reject the stupidity voiced by others like Suge Knight. Please see my comment elsewhere. African Americans are the American descendants of Africans who were enslaved and brought to America. If you are not that, then you are not an African American. (This term was invented for them because due to slavery, it was known that they are of African descent but the country/area/tribe was not known–except to say from West and SouthWest African–as far North as Senegal and as far South as Angola. The term “African American” puts a “there” there. There is no “there” in black/Black. African Americans have a different history than recent black/African immigrants to this country (such as Nigerian Americans, Kenyan Americans, Jamaican Americans, African Canadians, etc.) If DNA tests were done, the tests would show that African Americans have ancestors from Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Congo, Angola, etc.

    2. Toretto, you are wrong. African Americans have a different history than recent black/African immigrants to this country (such as Nigerian Americans, Kenyan Americans, Jamaican Americans, African Canadians, etc.). In this regard, Obama is Kenyan-Irish American or Irish-Kenyan American because he’s Kenyan on one side and Irish on the other side. Valentina from Bad Girls Club is Nigerian-American because she if recent Nigerian descent. Your high school math teacher kids are part Ghanian-American because their father is straight from Ghana. In this same sense, there are African Brazilians, African Peruvians, African Cubans, etc.

Please let the ignorace stop with what I have written above. All African Americans are black/of African descent but not all people of black/African descent are African Americans.

  6. Everyone please listen to me very carefully, TMZ is the most racist tv show on basic cable. They are beyond racist and Harvey Levin who is the head guy in charge hates black people and spews his hatred through the tmz show and the online website. We need to complain and boycott everything tmz because this kind of blatant racism has been going on for years now, just a huge lack of respect for black people and like I said this has been happening for years, Harvey hates blacks with a passion, tmz is just a reflection of his hate.

    1. ^wow i did NOT know that about harvey.
tmz was immediately put on my “not interested” list.
doesn’t he have black people working on his staff.

    2. If Harvey hates Black People why does he get upset and outraged whenever a Black celeb, rapper, comedian etc use the word Nigga. He gets just as upset when people use faggot or fag.Just because TMZ covers all of Chris Brown’s crimes or other Black celebs doesn’t make him anti Black.Anymore than covering all of Lindsay Lohans crimes makes him anti White.Harvey’s #2 guy is Black,Charles with the dreads.

      1. ^harvey always came off as a “equal opportunity asshole” to me.
not to mention he always gets everything first with his connections.
his site was first to report paul walker and mj’s death when everyone else didn’t.
granted he has gotten some things wrong,
but tmz is always on point.
they do a lot of bashing of white celebs on there as well.

that poll was a little shocking today tho.

  7. Damn. What is he smoking on? I want to be called African American, and that poll was stupid. They know better than that shit.

    1. For some reason, Black people have been on a mission to try and disassociate ourselves from the word African.I’ve seen a few videos made by Black dudes claiming that calling us African American is racist. What these idiots don’t realize is we were called African American because we all know we descend from enslaved Native/Indigenous Africans. The problem is, we don’t which ones specifically so we were called African.I have no problem with White people that call themselves Irish American or Italian American. They can do that because they know where their ancestors come from in Europe.Same with Asians and Latinos.Of course, leave it to a few dumb Black people to try and keep ourselves associated with a label that is based on our skin color or a word that was used to degrade us as less than human for centuries. That’s like a gay guy saying “I don’t wanna be called gay, I wanna be called a faggot.”

If a Black person says they want to be called “Nigga” rather than “African” then I wish everyone would go ahead and keep calling him/her out of their name.I hope every time a White person sees Suge Knight they go “hey nigger.”I’m so tired of people giving these hicks and niggas the time of day.
