    i think this gendered thing is interesting..i just think as far as bottoms there has to be some distinction between a boy who has with a face full of make-up and penciled eyebrows and a masculine guy who just loves dick…on the same line of thinking..if what they like in bed is the determining factor..where do u put drag queens that are strict tops? (theres a suprising amount) are they boys? or the twisters in the ball scene (the most hard hood looking boy that vogues when the beat drops) are they boys?

    Just because someone is masculine doesn’t make them a “he.” At least in the context of how myself and my friends use those terms. Its hard for me to explain because its something i do automatically. Sort of like how we’ve come to use the terms foxes and wolves here on this site. If you seem like the type who would go on a date expecting to have it paid for by the other party… lol… you’re a “she” even if you’re masculine. I think its mostly like, if you do not fit within the narrow boundaries of what we perceive a hetero-normative boy to be like, we place you in the context of a “she.” I can talk about someone to a friend and say “he’s a girl” and they’ll know exactly what i mean. In the context of Drag queens… In Drag its always a she. To call someone a boy while they’re in drag is shade. Out of drag it can go both ways depending on who they are. Same thing with the twisters. Certain boys are “hes” depending on what they give while others are “shes.” Its very contextual.

      And perhaps it is bottom language? I know It’s Ballroom language as well. We’ve sort of been raised to believe the worst thing you can call a man is a woman. And in someways that is true within our culture but overall it kind of isn’t.

      It might stem from us sort of living in these hetero-type gender roles and not really having our own labels so we use the ones given to us in different ways. Like to describe someone as a “boy”, from the stand point of a beta males or bottoms, it doesn’t mean that he simply has an X and Y chromosome. “He’s a boy” tends to describe someone who is more inline with the hetero-normative idea of what a typical boy is. It also comes into play when describing our friends too. I personally believe alpha males and beta males have different types of friendships and communication styles in the way heterosexual men and women have different types of friendships. Like, we’ll call each other sister because there’s something about it that, at least from my experience, speaks to emotional connections which is similar to female friendships. I’ve noticed our friendships tend to be based on verbal communication and sharing of intimate details. Something “brothers” or the idea of “brotherhood” isn’t really synonymous with.

      So certain things may be “gendered” within the context of foxes and wolves.
