justice smith and nicholas ashe star in “young black gay love”

maybe this is the representation we needed?
every time a black male comes out,
we get all excited,
and then he parades around his new white trophy.
check the archives.
it never fails.
they always claim they date black males,
but it always ends up being a lie.
well justice smith,
who was in “the get down”,
and micah aka nicholas ashe from queen sugar,
debuted their relationship with some words on his ig

@nckash and I protested today in New Orleans. We chanted ‘Black Trans Lives Matter’ ‘Black Queer Lives Matter’ ‘All Black Lives Matter’. As a black queer man myself, I was disappointed to see certain people eager to say Black Lives Matter, but hold their tongue when Trans/Queer was added. I want to reiterate this sentiment: if your revolution does not include Black Queer voices, it is anti-black. If your revolution is okay with letting black trans people like #TonyMcDade slip through the cracks in order to solely liberate black cishet men, it is anti-black. You are trying to push yourself through the door of a system designed against you, and then shut the door behind you. It is in our conditioning to get as close to whiteness, straightness, maleness as we can because that’s where the power is. And if we appeal to it, maybe it’ll give us a slice. But the revolution is not about appeal. It is about demanding what should have been given to us from the beginning. What should have been given to black, queer, and trans individuals from the beginning. Which is the right to exist. To live and prosper in public. Without fear of persecution or threat of violence. There is so much tragedy on the timeline these last couple of days so I added some photos of me and Nic to show some #blackboyjoy #blacklove #blackqueerlove ❤️???????????????????? You’ve been my rock and guiding light through all of this and I love you so much. I know that on the other side of this Is change, though the fight is far from over. #justicefortonymcdade #justiceforninapop #justiceforgeorgefloyd #justiceforahmaud #justiceforbreonna #sayhername #defundthepolice #endwhitesupremacy

  1. I JUST REALIZED WHO THIS IS! I remember thinking he was gay in The Get Down on Netflix.

Too bad Shameikkk Moore (also from The Get Down) voices Miles Morales. Somebody needs to start a petition to replace his coon step and fetch self.

Chile we had a man who dates men in Detective Pikachu AND Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom! He’s leading man material. VERY happy for him!

  2. Amen. I’m not down with this Queer nonsense though. Queer means strange. These people that don’t want labels keep coming up with new ones. SGL. Queer. Even gay used to mean happy. A fag was a bunch of freaking sticks. We need to come up with our own word. A new word. Not change the meaning of an existing word.

  3. Such beautiful, lifting news! I love seeing brothas together! Congrats to both of them, and thanks to them for their powerful political statements and consciousness too.

  4. I saw this on Twitter yesterday and I was hoping Jamari would feature these two guys. But what most people are missing from the story is the statement made by Justice Smith.

“As a Black Queer man myself, I was disappointed to see “certain people” eager to say BLACK LIVES MATTER but hold their tongue when Trans/Queer was added. I want to reiterate this sentiment. IF YOUR REVOLUTION DOES NOT INCLUDE QUEER VOICES, IS IT ANTI-BLACK!”

^^^ I’m so glad he said that! And it is my hope that he keeps BLM accountable to include LGBT.

    1. Isn’t Alicia Garza, one of the founders of BLM, a self-described Black queer woman? She has always pushed to ensure that BLM includes and is accountable to Black LGBTQ people.

      1. @TheLoveTho

She is just one person. And if Justice Smith felt the need to font about what he perceives as a slight towards Trans/Gay individuals while attending that rally it looks as though Alicia has some work to do…. and btw, where is DeRay McKesson? The black gay dude who was making the rounds during the Michael Brown era. I haven’t seen nor heard from him. 🤔

          1. @Aston

What?!!! are you joking or nah? Who put him on like that? I heard he was kinda tight with Twitter’s CEO Jack Dorsey at some point, but damn $3 million? lol

  5. Nicholas’s caption was so powerful! I usually don’t read those long ass IG captions but I am glad I read that one. What he said about cishet black men wanted to get in the door and shut the door behind them is so true. Those types don’t want privilege and nothing else.

  6. Im excited for this. Even though whomever may be biracial I still feel represented. It makes me happy.

  7. Cute Couple❤
As for one being biracial it’s funny how I never hear people say Barack and Michelle don’t represent Black Love because Barack’s biracial 😒.
