I Have An “Electra Heart” Now

shuffle-songs-music-appi have been listening to an album on repeat this entire week.
i actually wanted to listen to the artist,
but i don’t think i was ready for it.
my cousin hybrid actually put me on.
i randomly decided to listen to this album and now i’m hooked

“electra heart”.
this album is sooooooooooo good.
it came out in 2012,
but it doesn’t sound dated at all.
the lyrical content is what drew me in.
i went researching the album and this is what genius had about it:

Electra Heart is the second album by Marina and the Diamonds.

Marina told The Sun that Electra Heart is a collection that, “personifies love and what you go through when your heart gets broken.” She added that one of the inspirations for the album was a failed relationship: “I’m not the type of girl who writes songs like ‘Baby, I really love you, please come back,’ she said. “I was more, ‘I hope you get screwed over by another girl!’

When you are hurt by someone, you go through stages of how you feel. At the beginning you feel really angry and you literally want to kill them. But being like that makes you undesirable and bitter. I felt unloved by someone. I was a walking broken heart and I was angry. That’s why some of the songs are really bitchy. No one wants to look weak. I was upset but I’d moved on. This record is more of an anti- break-up record.”

Asked to describe just what Electra Heart is and stands for, Marina told Popjustice: “Electra Heart is the antithesis of everything that I stand for. And the point of introducing her and building a whole concept around her is that she stands for the corrupt side of American ideology, and basically that’s the corruption of yourself. My worst fear – that’s anyone’s worst fear – is losing myself and becoming a vacuous person. And that happens a lot when you’re very ambitious.”

hands-up-medium

this album speaks to me for this era of my life.
it’s not sad,
but it’s you feel like you can go on after being hurt.
it makes you feel like you have no fucks to give.
it helps me get through work and getting back to how i was.
it seems marina and i have similar backgrounds as well.
she has dealt with:

suicidal thoughts (teen idle)
realizing it’s okay to be nice (fear and loathing)
wanting someone but they won’t let you in (starring role)

i’m about to listen to her entire catalog.
soon.
“electra heart” isn’t done with me yet.
