well damn.
that was my reaction when i stumbled upon this web series,
“tex brown”.
i’m starting to think they’re beautiful shot pornos with scripts.
take a look at this

now take a look at the x-rated version:

x SEE IT HERE

i mean…

How is one supposed to follow the story if you’re jackin’ off?

it’s one thing to have one or two wild sex scenes,
but that up there is overkill.
maybe i’m wrong,
but i had to ask the foxhole…

Are web series becoming too raunchy?

lowkey: you know it’s bad when they’re hiring porn stars.

  1. Y’all!! “Porn” was born in the ’80s. Before that, they were called ‘Adult Movies’ in the industry, and the actors – while they did not cross over commonly into mainstream entertainment were not derided by mainstream actors and the industry. These web series are revolving towards what adult film was before it became more explicit, and just about sex.

I saw the first season of ‘About Him’ and I enjoyed. My issue is that this genre of entertainment competes with all the other forms of entertainment I enjoy. I can only watch so much, and juggle all this social media, etc.

Personally, I prefer to see nudity above explicit sex, let me imagine how I’d use you, LOLOL.

  2. Well according to some one in the thread for the web series. The first ep is the only ep with the crazy sex scene. All the other scenes sucks, and not in a good way. lol I can’t lie Tex is sexy as well though. lol

  3. well this is PORN written with a good script. Good to see prone stars extending their roles to acting or some form of it. Characters are too contrived and too easily red are my only comments so far. Otherwise, its good to watch on a rainy day or night.

  4. I actually think most of the shows are pretty good considering what they have to work with budget wise. I have purchased a few of the About Him and About Justin shows. It is not like anybody else is knocking the doors down to tell our stories, I am sure with more support the content will get better as well as the acting and writing. Personally, I dont see anything wrong with the sex scenes, in the world of Pornhub, Myvidster, and Tumblr, I am sure the attention span of most in this internet world is little to none and most of us are probably over sensitized to sex thanks to the internet anyway that these scenes are pretty mild to me. Especially when you have people out here doing the most in public and filming it on their Androids for the world to see. Sometimes our stories are raunchy, and not squeaky clean television ready. It takes all kinds of stories to make this world go round. I wish them much success and hope they can build a lucrative brand to continue to serve our community.

  5. I was FLOORED when I saw actual oral sex happening on-screen, especially when I just watched Henderson Maddox say, in an interview he did with AConnectionTV, that all sex scenes are simulated. Hmmm…now I have to assume otherwise for every scene from here on out.

In terms of the actual plot line, I’m ACTUALLY here for it. I was quite impressed. The scenes are a bit slow, but they tell a very dynamic story. Sure, the abundance of sex wasn’t REALLY needed, but I have to agree with bllackpegasus. This is quickly becoming the new standard. In the interview, Henderson explained his reasoning for all of the sex.The target audience is obviously young, black gay men. Sex isn’t everything, but we’d be lying if we said that sex doesn’t consume our minds MOST of the time. He could have gone and did something similar to Moonlight, where the homosexuality is very subtle, but it was subtle in order to appeal toward the masses. We actually weren’t the target audience.

With that said, I applaud Henderson for this particular series premiere. The plot line is relatively solid, and not just filler until the next sex scene (as is the case with some of his previous series). I just hope it stays that way and doesn’t fall apart in the next episode. I’ll be watching. Thanks for putting me on, Jamari. I feel bad about watching for free, but I’ll gladly support it monetarily if it keeps this up.

  6. I’ve said before I can’t really rock with most gay web series. The sex scenes aren’t really a problem for me. It’s the cinematography, budget, and the acting none of it is good to me. It just takes me out of it everytime. I don’t think it takes sex to draw in a gay audience I really believe it takes really good storytelling.

The only urban gay shows I’ve been able to get into was Noah’s Arc and The DL Chronicles but of course those were networks shows that had the money to hire professional actors and script writers with better shooting locations.

P.S. Now that Logo doesn’t have Rupaul’s drag race to keep the lights on over there, maybe they will get some actual good scripted programming. ( probably not tho)

  7. I think the future of gay entertainment may morph into something that’s similar to this webseries. Sex is used to hook the viewer, and in a very crowded world where up and coming content creators have to compete with our ever-demanding attention spans, this may be the new normal.

And Jamari is right, it’s difficult to care about the storyline when the SEX is so abundant and explicit.

  8. Sorry but the whole premise of gay web series are dumb to me.

All this sex is just to attract views and to make up for a dumb plot and character development.

Just trying to get views is cool if it actually leads to money. The problem is these shows will only appeal to gays and have too much sex on them and are marginal without the sex so there’s no chance of it being adapted for tv.

I’ll just watch porn where there’s no pretenses.

What irritates me is they play to the stereotype that all black men care about is sex. Will & Grace had successfully well adjusted people in a top rated show that even homophobes crack a smile at and blacks have this and virtually no representation on the LOGO channel lol

      1. White shows stereotype gays as flaming drama queens, and just like in the black gay community…that’s not the case. Not all gays act that way. It’s a bad representation.

      2. I don’t necessarily think that white gay entertainment is more acceptable per say I just think that the material is what helped it succeed. The show is just funny having good writers and the backing of the NBC network really helped it. At the time of that show premiere (1998) it was a big deal to have that show come out on a prime time network.

I also believe the fact that they had two different types of gay men of the show helped as well.

        1. ^i agree.
will was very masculine and laid back.
jack was very feminine and out there.
          it was a great dynamic.
we need that in black gay entertainment as well.

  9. i saw the episode on Myvidster this morning. I was like, WOOOOOOW this pineapple really gettin blown on screen. That took me app the way back from that. I won’t say all of them are raunchy, you have a lot of good gay content out there. About Him, Momma’z Boi, Drama Queenz, Willology, No Shade, Love@FirstNight, The Boys Who Brunch, Raising Eli, Triangle, Living for the Weekend, Entercourse, Pharm, the list goes on. I’m glad that we have black gay content because we are usually underserved and underrepresented as a group, but Signal23 is basically porn and it makes us as a community look like all we do is fuck. We’re more than that.

    1. I loved love@firstnight (altho I thought their mental illness storyline near the end of the season was a lil …off). Slay tv is actually killin it imo tbh, the only gay web series I watch right now are ones that have barely any sex, if I want 2 see that I’ll just watch porn, I want to see more than just flesh.

    2. So far the ones I am really enjoying are

      bait the series
      willology
      no shade
      love@first night
      pharm
      raising eli
vampire G (although they came back and I was confused as hell but okay)
      not an american horror story
      about him: senior year
      the out crowd
      etc.

I do agree when the series focuses more on hooking you into them than showing you ass and dick they are more enjoyable.

  10. I haven’t been into the signnal23 series since about him changed and about justin was cancelled they all just became about sex. I know that probably sells pretty decently but still. Ehh

      1. pretty much yeah lol I don’t want to not enjoy/like it and I don’t want to come off as a prude but it’s like they are trying to see how far they can go without it being porn but it’s still porn. I want to keep watching and support because webshows are legit all we as gay black men have for representation but it’s getting dry.

  11. Yall don’t know nothing about the 40’s,50’s, and early 60’s. That right there is real!!

      1. No bro, that was real life. I am referring to the prims of the show not just the raunchy sex but even the molestation by boyfriends. Kind of the reason he grew up to be the person he is now..I saw a lot more than the sex in this story.

  12. Was anyone put-off by the kid though? I mean I get the role he’s to play, but having a child co-star in what ultimately becomes porno with a full script seems weird.

Like did his mama and daddy really know the type of movie he’s be in when they pulled him from acting class for this?

    1. ^when the cub walked in and saw the fucking going down!!!!
      wtf!!?!
that’s when i hit the FF button.
it was just gratuitous sex scenes from there on.

  13. This one is a bit off, I agree. Its like going on Adam for Adam site but your too focus on the gay porn ads. I can say the same with gay novel especially when you read about the love scene and already hard on, if its written by E Lynn Harris. I need Signal23 to be tasteful on the content or at least present the raunchy scene at the climax. Theres a time for everything.
