THE NATIONAL NIGGER WAKE UP CALL

tumblr_npu1ae8kWk1rkvimbo1_500wait…
you hear that noise?
it’s a ringing sound.
i think your phone is ringing.
wait…
not your cell phone.
it’s another call you are about to get.
you don’t hear it?
oh,
you soon will.

we can get comfortable.
it could be at:

school
work
within your career

now don’t get me wrong,
you have slayed and can’t be fucked with on your life journey.
that is around the time you start to lose yourself in the process.
it isn’t until you start mingling with the “others”,
and by “others” i mean those in the snow,
that shit can start to get real.
it isn’t until you meet “new blacks” that will stab you in the back for your spot.
a few knives in your back or one around your throat.
it’s called…

THE NATIONAL NIGGER WAKE UP CALL

…and it is needed to bring your ass back to reality.

top10-notificationever since i started working at this job,
i have had a few wake up calls.
i learned that even though i am a good worker,
i am still a nigger at the end of the day.
sometimes being a hard worker nigger is a problem.
it can be a problem to “them” and to “us”.
it has opened me up to being a target.
when i was getting relaxed,
and mentally putting up my feet,
some shit happened to bring them right back down.
i’m thankful i heard the phone ringing when i did.

i find it funny when black celebs get too comfortable.
they think they’re on some throne because the snow animals are showing love.
they start throwing shade once they start getting paid.

their call is coming.

foxhole…
you can’t go through life not trusting everyone.
sometimes,
the snow animals can elevate you to higher heights.
always remember:

YOU ARE STILL A NIGGER

you can be a:

on time and on call nigger
talented nigger
sexy nigger
stylish nigger
blogging nigger
“always working on his bawdy” nigger
“plays some sport so he can make us money” nigger

“he gonna tear his own people down for our approval” nigger

don’t think you are immune to “their” fuckery or someone who looks like “you” either.
your skin tone will always bring you back down to earth.
every smile,
joke,
shoulder rub,
and hi5 isn’t always from a genuine place.

stop getting comfortable
stop not pay attention
stop trusting everyone who smiles in your face

stop being so free with your personal business
stop being a crab in a barrel
stop being jealous/envious of your neighbor and get your own

*ring*
*ring*

you should always remember you’re black before anything else.
so if you ever get that call,
i say you should be grateful.
God wanted to remind you not to get comfortable.
there is no loyalty in these forests.
no one gives a fuck about you,
including the same ones in this life we live.
it’s harsh,
but i’ll always be real with you as you are with me.
i hope this helped someone out there.
keep your phone charged.
your call is coming.

lowkey: just because they look like you,
sin like you,
have the same blood as you means they got your back either.
“the national nigger wake up call” comes in many ringtones.

  1. Truth snaps fingers, I love that we are all different in this life and I continue to learn from everyone, I never really hung with others and this site have allowed me to be at peace with, who and what I am thank you to everyone for being my village and teaching me how to be a gay man.

  2. That’s right Jamari I’m glad you got your call and I hope black gays everywhere get the call and stop attaching themselves to white organizations such as LGBT they give 0 fucks about you.

  3. Yes Gawd Jamari! I was having a self-sermon as well. I wish every black person could read this post, but this post ain’t for every black person. I’ll just watch from the comforts of my home with my coffee. Thanks!

  4. I think Papa Pope and my parents said it best, “You have to be…twice as good as them to get half of what they have.”

  5. This post is a must read. Especially with all the fuckery we’re about to go through within the next four years.

  6. You better preach Jamari Fox. I am sitting here doing the Holy Ghost dance after reading this entry. So many people in our community are so damn clueless and live in a world of likes on social media, watching trashy brain dead reality shows and trying to stunt. They literally have no clue about the world going on around them. I think the powers that be like it that way. As many have probably figured out, I am no fan of the snow people at this time in my life I try to have as less dealing with them as possible. Sadly many times, you get a wake up call more by your own people more than you will a person of the snow, their mentality is so twisted that they will do the dirty work to stay in a snow persons good graces. I have seen this so much especially the good Kneegrows who have to manage other Blacks. I pretty much feel the same way about them as I do the snow people. You got to leave the BS of this world behind and stand up for yourself and your people. I am so glad that my parents gave me my wake up call at a young age about how things really work in the world concerning the snow people and the coons of my own race. They dont want to see you win but they will not stop me from running this race.

  7. Dude, I love this blog!!! It’s a daily must. I feel connected. You should consider a career in journalism sir. Well said.

  8. This is quite possibly the best post yet!!!! Brother, you hit the proverbial nail on its proverbial head!!!

I grew up in the birthplace of the Confederacy, Montgomery, Alabama. There is something to be said about becoming a successful Black Fox from that kind of environment. Finding your equilibrium is a constant struggle, especially when it’s not just the members of the paler nation that are out to get you.

I live in Houston, Texas now. With the ethnic diversity here, I had gotten lax in my attention to the racial barometer of the country. I got caught up in my work and social life and make commentary on “those” issues in other places.

The #PhilnadoCastile incident gave me a huge wake up call. I have been (and continue to be because it can’t hurt) a member of the “comply & live” school of thought. Actually seeing that compliance means nothing (to some) shook something at my very core. It was my “wake up call”. I spent that Thursday night through Sunday morning to take a look inside and to surf the Web becoming acclimated to just how blatant these executions were becoming.

Thank you for being a many faceted blogger with an eye on the meaningful and the guilty pleasures.

    GOD Bless.

    1. ^thank you Taylor!
      i loved your honesty.
i hope to receive more comments like this as well.

you also gave me my own wake up call a few entries back.
      thank you!

      1. You must be slick talking about Richard Sherman…

He fucked us over good and got a good dragging about the BLM comment (the sad part we took up for him when the other folks were calling him a nigger)

  9. Love this. People always talk about the privilege white people have, but there is a privilege that comes with having money and status as well. However, that does not change the color of your skin, it just determines how white folks will use you. One example would be Omarosa. White people use people like her to try persuade us and change our mindsets. Why do you think Trump made her the Director of African American outreach? He knows Omarosa can influence people with her words, not to mention that a lot of people in our community can relate to her personality type.

    1. ^love this even more.

omarosa should be embarrassed with whatever he trying to have her do.
didn’t he diss her on that show of his a few years back?
