The founder and CEO of Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill killed himself inside his Bronx factory Saturday, police sources said.

Lowell Hawthorne, 57, shot himself inside the Park Ave. building near E. 173rd St. in Claremont about 5:30 p.m., sources said.

More than a dozen current and former employees stood in disbelief outside the factory hours later. Some had tears rolling down their cheeks.

“He was a good boss, humble and a good businessman,” said Pete Tee, 27, a former employee.

“He never seemed sad. This is just terrible news right now.”

Many of Hawthorne’s colleagues and friends are reeling with shock with the news and were unable to comment. Early reports say Hawthorne killed himself at the main office in New York with two bullets to the head.

  1. Something is definitely off about this whole situation. 1st time I heard about it was on wshh…..sounds like someone wanted to get rid of him, imo

  2. It’s very rare but two bullets in the head? Unless the first shot caused a reaction that prompted another shot, I’d say this might possibly be a homicide, dressed as a suicide.

Who knows though. He could have been stressed or he could have owned someone some money…

    No telling these days.
