Did Malik Yoba Word Vomit Jussie Smollett’s Sexuality?

Screen Shot 2015-02-28 at 5.35.27 PMi think ive decided jamal from “empire” could get all this jelly.
he ain’t ready.
ya know…
i just realized he is jurnee’s brother.
“smollett” was the first clue.
don’t judge me.
so in a recent interview by “black film”,
malik yoba may have allegedly outed his co star on “empire”,
jussie smollett.
this is what he said…

Empire has quickly become a cultural and ratings phenomenon in the few weeks it’s been on the air. Empire fan favorite, Jussie Smollett plays as Jamal Lyon, has Google on fire wanting to know more about the sexy star behind Lucious’ now openly gay son that is so sweetly adored by Empire’s goddess, Cookie Lyon.

One of the main questions on the net ‘Is Jussie Smollett on Empire really gay in real life?’

According to the Empire co-star, Malik Yoba in an exclusive interview by Black Film, he reveals the answer to fans question:

I think that our show represents a huge opportunity to stay in the culture beyond entertainment value and there’s an intrinsic nature of you have the gay factor, right? So, obviously, Lee is gay. That was an important storyline for him. I think it’s important for people to see themselves. Even within the Black community. But if you aren’t really, really taking it off of screen and making it live in the community in a significant way…like I know Jussie, he is gay, and he’s very committed to issues around the LGBT community. He and I have a very close relationship.

largewhy do people do shit like that?
confirm someone’s sexuality before they do?
well even if he is/isn’t,
jussie has always maintained his privacy.
no matter what roles he plays.
this is what he told “sway in the morning” about his personal life:

I am not willing to confirm or deny anything, I live my life…if anyone is looking to put me in a box, then that’s not going to happen. But if you really want to know about me, just watch, because I don’t hide anything.

people think malik was being messy.
now it could have been un-intentional.
he may not have known.
jussie may have only been out to his circle.
i’ll try to give malik the benefit of the doubt.
after this little slip up about someone who may lives discreetly,
i couldn’t help but wonder…
there are some people we privately tell our sexual preferences.
not everyone wants to be “out”.
it could be just how they “role” in life.
we hope the other person is mature enough to keep that secret,
but like many of us,
there is always some straight asshole who can’t get it together.
they want you to keep their secrets tho.
i’m sure if you slipped how they cheat on their wife,
or how she wears spanx under her clothes.tumblr_mg1789mqMx1qcxvrao1_250it would be hell to pay.
so i had to wonder…

Can we really trust people to keep our sexualities privacy?

lowkey: on lighter news,
jussie signed a record deal with columbia records.
this is what he told ( x entertainment weekly ):

During the interview, Smollett was asked if he would release an album and he shared, “There will be a Jussie Smollett album. I signed to Columbia. So darling [laughs] I’m label mates with Beyoncé and Adele and Barbra Streisand.”

He continued to say: “It’s going to be a whole different thing. Now, the Empire family will still have something to do with it. I would love for Terrence to come and oversee the production of all of the music. And I would love for Timbaland to come on and Jim Beanz. We’ve all talked and they’re all down to work on it.”

congrats to jussie!

  1. SOME MEN CAN BE ASSHOLES AND MALIK JUST PROVED IT YOU ARE SO RIGHT JAMARI….WHAT IF HIS BUSINESS WAS “LEAKED” TO THE PRESS.

  2. That he’s gay is an open secret. First: Google “jussie smollett and dustin ross” and see what you get. Second: few straight men say “darling”. Third: His statement “I am not willing to confirm or deny anything, I live my life…if anyone is looking to put me in a box, then that’s not going to happen. But if you really want to know about me, just watch, because I don’t hide anything.” screams “gay”. Few straight men talk in such a way. They typically just say that they are straight.

Did Malik Yoba out him? I don’t know. Malik Yoba may not have perceived it as a secret and he may have perceived Jussie Smollett as already out.

  3. I guess I am late as someone still having a flip phone. I actually thought he was straight just playing the character, but if he has not said anything one way or the other, I think Malik “I need some chaptstick” Yoba was way out of line. I notice that str8 people love to put that label on you and tell your business, I have been around str8 people so many times, when the gay person they are talking about is not around, when they say things like -Oh he is gay, but he is cool, or my friend/brother/cousin etc is gay before you even meet the person. I have a close family member who is always calling somebody out, so I wonder what do they say when Im not around. I never discuss my sexuality with family members no matter how close I am to them, let them talk it about it among themselves. I have male cousins who are str8 and their lives are chaotic loaded with drama from their baby mamma’s, wives, girlfriends etc. Of course since that is the norm, no one says anything about all their dysfunction.

I love this dude character and it makes me feel so good to see him treated as a regular dude without all the extra you usually see on TV with gay characters of color. I love the interaction he has with his baby brother and how close they are. I hope they keep developing his character, he is a great actor and artist, and if he is one of the family, welcoming him with open arms.

  4. I’m not surprised that he’s gay. I mean come on anybody with two eyes can tell. I heard one of his songs on the radio and it was pretty good.

  5. Chile he has the gay rights symbol tattoo on his arm. Raven Symone was his beard. I think his coming out should’ve coincided with Jamal’s. Is he gay or not is the late question. What we wan to know is what kinda guys he likes

  6. I thought it was known he was gay also. I don’t think Malik was being messy. I think it was unintentional. I really do. If he was gay or not, it’s not anyone’s business honestly. He’s a great actor and his personal life shouldn’t come into his professional one.

  7. I mean Malik Yoba didn’t tell anyone anything they can’t plainly see. Lol its not like he hides it at all.

I think it’s only outing if the general perception is that the dude doesn’t appear to be gay.

  8. Who cares about his sexuality tho? I do not understand the obsession with sexuality in the black community man. People have been gossiping about him heavily for the past few weeks. Even though we know he likes men in his real life, I do not get why it has turned into such a big deal. You cannot even play a role without people speculating.

    1. Exactly! It be these homophobes that tell us “keep it in the bedroom” but always in our business and pressed to know who is and isn’t gay. Nosy hoes.

    2. That’s the same thing I always ask. What is the obsession with a person’s sexuality. They always scorn us but they are always in our business.

    1. Just because Malik has a fondness for Tgirls…☺
I just read today that Lee Daniels also mentioned in an interview that Jussie is gay.
As someone mentioned when he used the term” Darling” in the Entertainment Weekly interview posted above he pretty much came out.

  9. I actually know Malik, and he is the furthest from being “messy” as a person, I don’t think that was his intention if he said that. But it is BEYOND safe to say Jussie is gay, you can tell.

  10. LOL, I thought it was well known that he was gay. I mean I just knew from watching him in Patrick Ian Polk’s “The Skinny” that he was as gay as a rainbow. I know it was just a role but that sealed it for me. Plus his good judy is Dustin (the guy that played his bf in that movie) and him and Raven Symone have been good girlfriends for about 6 years. I’m just saying…
